How to create a new trip on Polarsteps?

On the main screen (“Me” tab), click the “+Add Trip” option (pictured above).

Select the kind of trip. A window will appear where you can select whether you’re tracking a past, present, or future trip. This is how you start a trip in advance and record older trips on Polarsteps.

Add your destination(s). A window will appear asking where you are going. You can skip this section if you’re unsure. Search for your destination by typing into the search bar. It’s better to be more specific and provide a city name if you want the map to be more accurate.

Customise your trip details. Select the start and end dates for your trip. If you are going on an open-ended trip, you don’t need to select the end date. Add a name for your trip (e.g. Backpacking Southeast Asia or Overlanding Europe) and add a summary.

You can add travel buddies who also use the Polarsteps app. This means that other people will be able to see this trip on their profiles. This is perfect if you are travelling with a friend or as a group.

Set the trip’s privacy level. ‘Only me’ means that the trip is private. ‘Follower’ means that it will just be the friends that follow you and can see what you post. ‘Everyone’ means that the trip is public and can be found in the discovery section of the app. If you intend to plot your route in advance, you can also toggle the bar to show or hide your planned steps. I prefer to keep this off for safety reasons.

Once you are done, press ‘Create trip’. This will take you to the trip you have created.

Polarsteps will automatically track your location from the day the trip starts until it ends.

NOTE: You can edit the details of your trip at any time by clicking on the menu bar in the top right and clicking ‘Trip Settings’.

PolarstepsWork your way through the list until you’re ready to click ‘Create trip’.PolarstepsClick on the burger icon in the top right to change any settings after the trip has been created.

The app is awesome for keeping track of your travels and writing about them. Some improvements could be adding captions to photos, keeping the local time for each step, and making it simpler to edit waypoints. I like using it to show my friends where I've been. Once, I was in Norway while a friend was in Peru. Our travel tales unexpectedly crossed paths, which was really cool. It's all thanks to this app that we discovered this surprising connection.

I really enjoyed keeping tabs on our journey and adding stories or pictures for each part. Our loved ones liked being able to keep up with our adventure too. The only issue was that the location didn't always show up, even though I had it set to high accuracy. It was likely because we were driving non-stop without pauses. To fix this, I switched between this app and my usual GPS to refresh it regularly.

Adding a new location to my trip is tough because the search only shows places in specific countries. It's frustrating that even searching for a Novotel hotel in Bangkok didn't work. I think they should consider using Google Map API to improve this. It's hard to plan the whole journey, especially since I only started using PolarSteps halfway through. Any tips would be helpful!

I really like this travel diary app. It would be great if we could add "journeys" instead of just steps, so that we can easily mark the start and end of a trip, like a flight or train ride. It would also be helpful if the location search function could search for Google Maps locations, making it easier to find airports, stations, or tourist spots without having to manually locate them on the map.

I really like this app! It's so easy to use and looks great. It's like a digital travel diary that follows your steps using GPS. It shows you the places you've been for each trip. It's super convenient for sharing my travel experiences with others. I told my friends about it and they think it's awesome!
