ENGAGE ONLINE WITH PLAYERS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE! (alpha version)
*** It becomes addictive once you understand the rules! ***
*** It is unquestionably superior to poker! ***
Gameplay
The game begins by shuffling the deck of 32 cards and dealing out the cards to each player. Each player receives ten cards. The dealer then places four cards face up on the table to create a trump suit. The trump suit is the suit that will beat all other cards in the game. The trump suit is determined by the last card that was dealt. The card that determines the trump suit is called the ‘uncut card’.
The game has three rounds, and each round is broken up into different parts. In the first round, the players use their cards to bid on how many points they will score. The player with the highest bid becomes the declarer, and the other players become the defenders. The declarer must score at least the number of points that they bid. If they fail to score the needed number of points, they lose the round.
In the second round, the declarer is given the option to swap cards with either a defender or with an unseen deck of cards. This is called the ‘card disclosure’ phase. After the card disclosure phase, the game enters the third and final round. In this round, the goal is to win the game. The declarer must score at least 66 points to win the game. However, if the declarer scores 130 or more points, they win a ‘contract’ and receive additional points.
Scoring
In Preferans, each card has a point value. The point values are as follows:
Aces – 11 points
Kings – 4 points
Queens – 3 points
Jacks – 2 points
Tens – 10 points
Nines – 0 points
Eights – 0 points
Sevens – 0 points
The scoring is based on the value of the trump suit. If the trump suit is hearts, then the hearts are the highest trump. The player that has the highest trump card in their hand will win the trick. The player that wins the trick will then lead the next trick.
