You cannot define your own chess pieces

Really Bad Chess is similar to traditional chess, but with completely random pieces. For example, you could try playing with 8 Knights, 4 Bishops, and 3 pawns — why not?

Strategies for Success

Control the Center: As with traditional chess, controlling the center of the board is vital. Use your pieces to dominate central squares to gain mobility and influence over the game.

Adapt to Your Pieces: Since your pieces are randomized, adapt your strategy based on what you have. If you have more knights than bishops, for example, focus on utilizing their unique movement patterns effectively.

Look for Tactical Opportunities: Pay attention to forks, pins, and skewers that can arise due to the unusual piece setup. These tactics can help you gain material advantage.

Create Threats: Always look for ways to create threats against your opponent’s pieces. This forces them to respond defensively, giving you control of the game.

Simplify When Ahead: If you find yourself ahead in material, consider trading pieces to simplify the position and make it easier to convert your advantage into a win.

Practice Checkmating Patterns: Familiarize yourself with basic checkmating patterns so that you can effectively close out games when you have a winning position.

Experiment with Different Setups: Embrace the randomness of the game by experimenting with different piece setups. Each game will present new challenges and learning opportunities.

Stay Calm and Think Creatively: The unpredictability of Really Bad Chess can be overwhelming at times. Stay calm and think creatively about how to utilize your unique piece arrangement.

------A WORD FROM THE DEVELOPER

Chess is a game that I always wanted to love, but its focus on beauty, elegance, and perfect balance always pushed me away. Really Bad Chess removes these monotonous constraints and turns chess upside down.

While random pieces alter the game in many ways, I was surprised to see how much of the game remains the same, and how formidable certain pieces can be. You've never truly struggled against a pawn until you've faced one on the back row.

For seasoned chess players, Really Bad Chess offers a fresh challenge — the pieces and moves are familiar, but you'll need to discard your established openings and understanding of standard play patterns.

For novice chess players (like most of us), Really Bad Chess significantly broadens the game. Instead of starting by memorizing openings, your initial games will introduce you to the joy (and challenge!) of mastering checkmate.

I trust you will derive as much enjoyment from Really Bad Chess as I had creating it.

Hey there! If you're tired of regular chess or computer versions that either get too easy once you crack the code or keep beating you relentlessly because they lack creativity, then you might want to try this different approach. This game is similar to chess in how it works, but with a twist - the board layout changes every time you play. It's pretty cool because it's a constant battle of who has the upper hand, with scenarios like starting a game with four queens while the AI has none, yet still ending up losing. It brings a whole new level of challenge and excitement!

This game used to be amazing, but now it's full of annoying ads and crashes often. I was okay with the ads at first, knowing the developers need to make money, even though I paid for the "ad-free" version. However, the frequent freezing both in the menu and during gameplay is becoming unbearable. Many of us would have been willing to pay extra for a completely ad-free experience, but it looks like it's time to find a different game.

I was getting tired of playing chess. I'm not great at it, but I've played a lot of games. Then, I found this new game. It changed how I see chess completely. I love coming up with new strategies each time and thinking "Oops, didn't see that one." Some people get annoyed by it, but it doesn't bother me much. The AI takes a while to make a move, and sometimes the game seems to freeze, but if I wait for 10 to 12 seconds, it starts back up. It's a shame I can't buy the ad-free version. Thanks for reigniting my passion for chess.

I really love this game. It has been super helpful for me in improving my skills in actual chess, especially as I'm teaching my significant other how to play. However, the latest changes have made it difficult for me to continue enjoying it. I've always enjoyed taking on the daily challenges, and even when I win, I try to beat my previous record of moves. But now, with the board not going back to the starting position and instead restarting halfway through the game, my enthusiasm for playing has decreased significantly. The game called Really Bad Chess takes a usual chess game and gives it a fun twist by mixing up the pieces in a random way. Surprisingly, this game is more enjoyable than one might expect! It can be played over and over again because each time you play, it feels fresh and different. Unlike regular chess where improving the AI is necessary for more challenge, Really Bad Chess offers new puzzles and excitement without needing a more advanced computer opponent.
