Frequently Asked Questions

What is an AMA and why would I host one?

We just launched our new AMA experience! Learn more at http://redditforcommunity.com/feature-hub/ama

- What are AMA posts?

AMAs, short for "Ask Me Anything”, are a long-held Reddit tradition. In an AMA, OP (that stands for “Original Poster”) sets the stage – anything from “I’m Barack Obama” to “I’ve been swallowed by a whale;” and allows redditors to ask them anything in the comments. AMA posts are a great way for your community to get up close and personal with people they may not normally have the chance to hear from.

AMA posts can be serious, silly, or a little bit of both. They should be a positive interactive experience for your community and the participant(s) answering questions - AMAs can increase comments in a community by up to 5% and returning redditors by 8%!

Top AMAs have been hosted by actors, producers, politicians, athletes, scientists and other subject matter experts. Keanu Reeves’ AMA holds the record for most upvotes, Stephen Hawking shared his wisdom in r/science, the Wall Street Journal’s wine columnist hosted an AMA in r/wine.

AMAs aren’t just for celebrities or public figures though. Other unforgettable AMAs include a lobster diver who survived being inside a whale, a 100 year-old WW2 veteran, and a nuclear energy engineer.

Every person can host an AMA - they're for anyone with a story to tell

- Why should you consider it?

AMA posts are a great opportunity for relevant people and organizations to participate in your community by answering questions. They are a unique way to foster direct communication and create a relevant experience for your community.

AMAs are excellent for:

    · Fostering engagement in your community with relevant, exclusive access to the guests
    · Amplifying the conversation of topics dear to your community across a broad audience
    · Growing your community with relevant users who come in out of curiosity for the AMA

The new AMA feature, which is a tab in the Reddit web composer, is currently in a private beta. If you would like to apply to have your community be part of the beta, please submit this form here. Kindly refer to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Ya8LZcEyNP0GVvtXzC9o5_ZAvd1w7rZXxVpOeb7Cvts/edit

Hey, just wanted to let you know that the app is not working well again. Whenever I try to open a post, it keeps freezing and showing me a message saying "Reddit has stopped working". I can choose to wait or close the app, but even if I wait and try to scroll, it just freezes again and the message pops up once more. It's really frustrating. I used to love using this app, but now it's almost impossible. Please, stop making it worse!

They keep adding new features that are poorly executed and don't give users the option to turn them off. Basically, this app is a perfect example of how not to design a user interface. The latest annoying feature is the automatic swiping to the next post while in full screen mode. The issue is that gesture is already used for swiping through images in a gallery, so it's frustrating when you expect more pictures but end up moving to the next post instead.

Obviously, Reddit content is awesome, but the app itself has some issues. It can be really slow and the layout isn't great. For instance, if you mistakenly hit the back button on your phone, getting back to where you were can be a real pain. The app lacks a forward option, which makes it less user-friendly. Similar to Quora and Facebook, there are many bugs and crashes that never seem to get fixed.
