FAQ

1. How do I search for an international connection in the SBB Mobile app?

In the standard timetable, you can search for a connection by entering the departure and destination stations using the keyboard.

The touch timetable is the personalised alternative to the standard timetable. The stops you travel to most often are automatically saved on the dynamic tiles. The touch timetable therefore adapts to suit your needs as they change. However, you can also create individual tiles according to your own requirements and personalise them with photos.

All timetable functions can be found in the ‘Plan’ tab.

2. Where can I find price information for an international journey using SBB Mobile?

Once you have selected the connection and entered the passengers, click on the ‘Continue’ button to access the overview of offers for the outward journey and display the prices for 1st and 2nd class.

Please note the conditions and validity for each offer. More detailed validity and exchange/refund conditions can be viewed via the ticket details and the info symbol.

If there are no offers for the connection selected (e.g. because the connection is already fully booked), alternative connections will be suggested.

3. How do I save a trip?

- Search for the connection you want.

- On the connection overview, save the connection by swiping from left to right.

- The connection is automatically transferred to the ‘Trips’ tab.

You can now also save the connection by using the ‘Save trip’ button in the detailed view of the connection. This way, you can save several connections without always having to start the search again.

If you buy a ticket, the connection is automatically transferred to the ‘Trips’ tab.

4. How do I buy a ticket with SBB Mobile?

Once you have selected the connection you want, you can swipe on the connection from right to left to start the purchasing process.

Alternatively, you can also open the detailed view of the connection and start the purchase process by clicking on the ‘Tickets from CHF xx.xx’ button.

Data security and permissions.

What permissions does SBB Mobile need and why?

- Location

For connections from your current location, the GPS function must be activated so that SBB Mobile can find the nearest stop. This also applies if you want to have the nearest stop displayed in the timetable.

- Calendar and email

Save connections in your calendar and send them by email (to friends, an external calendar). SBB Mobile requires read and write permissions to import your desired connection into the calendar.

- Camera access

SBB Mobile needs access to your camera to take pictures directly in the app for your personalized touch timetable.

- Internet access

SBB Mobile requires internet access to search the timetable and for ticket purchases.

- Memory

For offline functions such as station/stop lists, connections (history), and purchased tickets, SBB Mobile needs access to your device's memory (for saving app-specific settings).

You know, I wish I could receive notifications about any changes in my train schedule like delays or platform switches. Right now, I only get reminders before the train is scheduled to depart, but if it's running on time, I don't really need that. Another issue is that when I click on a train from a saved trip in the MyTrip app, it shows me a completely different train. It would also be awesome if we could change the app's language to match our phone's language.

This app is amazing, it's always spot on. SBB is the main way to get around in Switzerland. It has all the train, bus, and boat schedules, always accurate, 24/7. If you're traveling in Switzerland, you need this app. Good job, SBB team!

Your device was working well for some time, but now it's stuck on the "travel time: calculating" screen for over an hour. You activated it before your trip, but when you reached your destination, it couldn't detect the location and travel time. All location services are enabled for the app, and it was functioning properly until today.

Sure! Just update the title to "One-Year Half Fare Travelcard" and edit the sentences to say "When purchasing a Half Fare Travelcard, you are committing to a one-year period. You must pay a new fee to renew or activate a new card at the end of the year."

I got fined again because the app didn't work during my trip. The first time was because the ticket stopped when I turned on battery saver mode, which I should've read in the terms and conditions. This time, I'm certain I activated the ticket, but it disappeared. Last time, the employee was really rude to me when I called. This app has already cost me $200 in fines, it's frustrating.

User interface and user experience are so frustrating. It seems like the developers never actually use the app themselves. Every time you reopen it, your searches disappear! It should just verify if they're still relevant. It's such a hassle to navigate through old searches or remember everything. Using SBB mobile is such a struggle. I end up taking screenshots to avoid redoing searches for timetables every single time. This is just unacceptable.

The new version finds my location faster now, but it still can't handle my phone switching to battery saving mode during Easy Rides. When this happens, it seems like I never started the ride at all and then the app can't locate me anymore. Google Maps works fine all the time though. The only solution is to force stop the app from system settings, then restart it; surprisingly, it works even with battery saving turned on.

The Twint payment method keeps having bugs. I got a notification saying the payment failed three times, but on Twint, it shows as successful. When I try to update my payment settings, it also fails. This has happened multiple times, so I have to give it a bad rating. Be careful if you decide to use it.

Swiss commuters really love and use this Public Transportation app all the time. However, sometimes when you are checking a route, and then tap to go back, it doesn't take you back to the route list, but instead to the Home screen. This means having to enter your start and end stations again. The integration with SwissPass has some issues too, as sometimes it shows an error about your session expiring before letting you log in easily. Another problem is that if you are checking a route and then need to show your ticket's barcode, you lose the details of the route and have to search all over again. The app has improved in 2018, but it still lacks friendliness.

This app is great! It really helps you figure out the public transport system in Switzerland. You definitely need it when you're traveling alone. They should add a guide to teach users about tickets, like how to buy them and where they're valid.
