About the app
This application enables users to create shortcuts for local files and folders, applications, settings, contacts, messages, and even allows customization of shortcuts from other applications. Users can define their own shortcut titles and utilize various features for personalizing the shortcut icon: choose the icon from the respective application, crop images from an external gallery, import icons from a file, or select icons from an external theme. The app also includes support for native widgets, allowing the creation of a widget in place of a shortcut. The icon, title, and appearance of the widget can be modified later. Furthermore, users can organize their shortcuts within a Collections database using different methods such as hierarchy or tags. This organization facilitates quick access to the curated shortcuts through Collections dialogs.
WARNING:
Some functionalities are available in Pro mode (an in-app purchase), but Trial mode doesn’t restrict access initially, giving users a chance to try them out. The Trial version is exactly the same as Pro, so there’s no need to purchase Pro if you expect any changes.
WARNING:
On Android Oreo (8.0), a new method for adding shortcuts to the main screen is introduced, where the Launcher automatically appends a small Shortcut Creator icon at the bottom right corner of any shortcut icon. I have identified just one workaround for this issue—adding shortcuts via widgets. Please refer to the related instructional video located on the app's initial page.
More details
While the Android system allows you to create shortcuts for your most used applications and use widgets, Shortcut Helper goes even further and opens up a world of possibilities for your home screen.
This app can create fully customized shortcuts to applications, as well as specific local or remote documents: simply select the relevant application and icon to open it. To go even further, you can even create shortcuts to specific installation modes, favorite media files, or system elements such as a key to call or send a message to a specific person.
All these options are perfectly organized in the app, allowing you to customize each shortcut down to the smallest detail and indicate which service will be used to open it. The app also offers a neat way to access applications that allows you to create shortcuts with widgets, meaning that with Shortcut Helper you have an all-in-one tool.
Features of Shortcut Creator:
- Create shortcuts for local files, folders, applications, settings, contacts, and messages.
- Utilize an additional free component for creating shortcuts on switchers for certain settings, as well as a composite mode switcher.
- Support for native widgets that can act as containers for shortcuts.
- Reuse previously created shortcuts using the History feature and add those from other applications.
- Organize all shortcuts within the Collections database with options to export/import selected shortcuts.
- The system can automatically generate tags for each type of shortcut; for applications, it can also assign the corresponding app category, while users can easily add custom tags.
- Flexible layout and visual customization options for File Browser and Collections dialogs.
- Manage your icon collections and import new ones from zip files (Pro mode needed).
- Select images from various Android galleries and use advanced cropping tools to create new icons from chosen images.
- Extract themes from popular Launchers and allow the usage of their icons (Pro mode necessary) and wallpapers.
- The app does not have write access to internal storage or SD card and operates solely within its private area.
- Tablet device compatibility supported.
Currently, the app only offers the option to purchase Pro mode, which includes the following advantages:
- Import icons into the icon gallery.
- Use icons from themes.
- Add sub-collections in the Collections database.
- Export shortcuts from the Collections database (importing is free).
- Eliminate any ads (if added in the future) and other intrusive prompts.
Required permissions:
- Accessing your content on SDCard is necessary for selecting local files intended for shortcut targets.
- Access to your contacts is required for choosing a contact that will serve as a target for a shortcut.
- Installing shortcuts is essential for the app's primary functionality.
- Internet connectivity is required solely for advertising purposes and is not utilized in other areas of the application.
On Android 6.0, there exists a built-in ability to restrict access to your local file system and contacts; the app considers this and manages all scenarios appropriately.
