Create, Edit, Save & Publish Minecraft Skins

1. How to CREATE a new Minecraft skin?

Click File > New Skin...

Choose a model type (Steve / Alex) and a base model color. You can select a color from your color palette as well!

Paint Brushes

Brushes are used to paint on the 3D model. By default, you are provided with a set of basic brushes including pixel, square, circle and triangle.

2. How to change brush color, opacity, size, rotation and other properties

Depending on the selected brush you can change it's color, opacity, size, mode and more. The options will appear below the brush modes.

Different brush types and modes will provide different options. Best way to learn is to experiment.

Click the current color to open the color picker.

You can use the color picker tool  to select colors directly from your skin.

You can also change the current color by selecting one from a color palette. More on color palettes later.

3. POWERFUL! How to import an image as a custom brush

You can import images to be used as custom brushes! For example, you could create a single dragon scale in your favorite pixel art program, import it as a PMCSkin3D brush and use it to scale your entire skin!

Color Palettes

Color palettes allow quick access to a set of colors. A good color palette includes color ramps that include a specific range of colors that work well together. Any custom palettes you create will be saved on your local device for future use!

4. How to create a custom color palette

On the Color Palette pane, click the  actions icon in the upper right then Create new palette....

To add colors, click the  icon in the bottom left. To remove colors, click the  icon in the bottom right.

5. How to import a color palette file (.aco, .gmp, .gpl, .pal, images)

If you have a color palette file, you can import the colors into the current color palette. You can even import images as palettes!

Create a new custom palette. (see above: How to create a custom color palette)

Next, on the new custom palette pane, click the  actions icon in the upper right and click Import palette...

    This app is amazing for making skins! There are just a couple of issues that need to be worked out. Some sections of the skin save in reverse, like the head underneath and the feet underneath. Sometimes the app crashes right when I'm almost done creating a skin, which can be frustrating. It also doesn't save my progress correctly, especially with the next problem. When I close the app or it crashes, the second layer doesn't save properly.

    This skin painter is really awesome and simple to use. It has a hat layer too. Adding more small blocks to paint would be nice, especially for detailed characters. I've tested other apps before, but none of them function as well as this one. That's why I'm sticking with it. :)

    I found the perfect app for me. I really enjoy using my skins in Minecraft. But sometimes, when I exit and re-enter the app, some pixels disappear, especially on the outer layer. Apart from that, I think it would be great to have options for slimmer arms and different heights, a tool to clear pixels, and page numbers in the catalog. Overall, it's a fantastic app! 👍👍

    I gave four stars because the app is amazing. I think the app is cool, but there is a problem. When I downloaded it for the first time, everything was fine. But now when I try to download it again, a message pops up saying 'we need file permission to export your skin to Minecraft!' The issue is that I don't have any file permissions, so I can't edit my custom skins. If this problem gets fixed, I will give it five stars. Despite this, the app is the best for me and everyone likes it. Keep up the good work!

    I really love this app because it's so easy to use and they have a lot of different colors to choose from. I had a problem with the app deleting all my worlds last summer, but thankfully I was able to recover them. Now I know how to use the app better. By the way, you can find inspiration on Chrome and customize your skin to make it unique!

    I found this cool app where I can make or borrow skins, like a Dead Pool one, super cool. I don't have Minecraft yet, but it's fun to try out my art skills on the skins. I'm currently tweaking the default Steve skin, got rid of his nose and mouth and plan to change his outfit soon. It would be nice to have a second default skin, Alex, but can't seem to locate it. Saving custom colors on the palette would be awesome.
