How to Create a Skype Account on your Phone

Step 1) You will be asked to sign in. If you do not have a Skype account, click ‘Create one!‘, as the arrow points to in the photo below.

Step 2) You will be asked for a phone number or email address to create your account. We recommend using your email address, as this is the easiest way to verify your account.

Step 3)  You will then choose a password. Remember to write it down somewhere safe!

Step 4) You will be asked to to enter your name and some other details. This will help other people to add you as a contact on Skype.

Step 5) Next, you will have to validate your Skype account by email. Log in to your email and follow the instructions sent to you by ‘Microsoft account team’. They will have sent you an email containing a 4 digit code that you must input on the Skype app.

Step 6) You need to validate your account by entering the ‘characters you see’, to ensure that you are a real person (robots can’t manage this task). Type in the letters and numbers that are in the unusual font on your device.

Step 7) Your account has been made!  Your device will ask if you are happy for it to access your camera and microphone. To be able to make video calls, click Allow.

    I'm doing great, thanks for asking! I am living off the grid mostly, without phone lines and relying on the Three network. But making calls to landlines and mobile phones using a regular phone can be costly. That's why I've switched to using Skype for all my calls, and it's been a money-saving tactic! I have a subscription that includes 100 minutes for both landlines and mobiles, which works perfectly for me. And if I ever need a landline number, I can easily set one up for a small monthly fee. As long as my signal is strong, the call quality is excellent. I've been using Skype for years now, and I couldn't be happier with how it's working out for me!

    So, I think the app is really awesome. A few days back, I had to reinstall it from scratch. The latest version doesn't have that convenient little dialog box (I'll just call it that) which allowed me to easily mute and unmute my microphone and camera whenever I wanted. It was super handy. It gave me more flexibility while I was using the chat feature. It's not a huge issue, but having that control box always visible was pretty useful for me. I kinda wish they didn't remove it... Oh well, cue sad face.

    The call quality on Skype is really great! They've got some fancy algorithms that work really well at getting rid of background noise, like echoes or the sound of an engine running in the background. It even deals with wind noise in the microphone (but only when it's not too strong - if you blow into the mic, people will still hear it). I do miss the old version of Skype that had games like chess, backgammon, and battleship. I hope they bring those back. It was so much fun playing board games with friends while video chatting :-(

    I'm not a fan of the app with Bing integrated into it. The "Bing examples" button that appears right where the send button is located is quite annoying. Sometimes the messages I send don't display on my end, so I have to exit and re-enter a conversation to see them. One frustration is that messages often get cut off. I'll receive a message from a friend, but it will be incomplete, requiring another message to be sent just to read the first one. Overall, using the app has become not enjoyable for me.
