How can I find smartChord’s files

A: The file explorer in the navigation menu of the home-screen starts in the base folder of the app. It allows the directory to be copied.

How can I limit the access to app folder in the cloud?

A: You can’t limit the access to the app folder in the cloud. This is because most users want to use another folder than the app folder as most of them have already a folder for their songs. This is the most flexible and convenient solution. Please use a network sniffer to check that we do NOT use or abuse your files.

How to change a fretboard quiz?

A: Once created, a fretboard quiz can’t be changed, just played. But you can create a new exercise using the ‘Folder menu -> New’ and configure the new quiz, including instrument, fret range, tuning and chords

Why do I have to install smartChord as a second app?

A: We want to make smartChord the best and most popular music app worldwide. To achieve this great goal, we have to go new ways. We follow the concept of a huge toolbox where the tools are very well integrated into each other. We made smartChord the central app with all the functionality and all the data.

As not every user needs every functionality, we made smaller packages for various purposes. The packages are represented by our plugins – the s.mart apps like the s.mart Mandolin. The s.mart apps just unlock functionality – but they need smartChord.

Why does the app need permissions?

A: smartChord does NOT need access to photos or to any personal information on your phone!

– The ‘audio record’ permission is essential for the tuner

– The ‘vibrate’ permission is needed to signal, that time is up (timer) or pitch is met (tuner)

– The ‘wake lock’ permission is needed to prevent sleep mode while the metronome is playing

– The ‘external storage’ permission is essential to import or export stored items like songs

– The ‘network access’ permission is needed for the internet search for songs (and maybe ads in the future)

There is a possibility to withdraw permissions with Android 6 or higher. Please check: ‘Info’ -> ‘Permissions’ -> ‘Permissions’

How to use

The chord progression tool is divided into three section which are reachable by the tabs below the title bar.

Chords section (chords button)

Use this first section to add the chords and it’s fingerings for the chord progression. The order of the chords is not really relevant at this point. You can add the same chord multiple times, but just with a different fingering.

Click on the ‘+‘ button to:

Add a single chord from the chords screen

Add the chords from another chord progression

Add the chord set from a song of your songbook

Add a chord progression from a song using the Song Analyzer

You can transpose or change the tuning of your chord progressions in the overflow (3-dots) menu.

Bar section (bar button)

Use it to define the order of your chords in the chord progression. The chords from the chords section are offered in a gallery at the top.

Click on the ‘+‘ button to add the bars.

Now you can assign the selected chord from the gallery to each individual beat. If you click on a beat, the selected chord is inserted and displayed with its fingering. If you click on a beat with chord again, the chord is removed.

With the repeat button, you can repeat a bar and set the the number of iterations.

Play section (player button)

Use the last section to listen to your chord progression. The edit button let you change the tempo, count in, or activate the speed trainer and timer.
