In Soccer Manager 2024, you don’t actually kick the ball or control the players like in regular soccer video games. Instead, it’s a management game. You’re like the coach or manager of a football team. Your main job is to make smart tactical decisions to help your team win matches.

The game doesn’t show you the entire soccer match with all the running around and passing. Instead, it highlights the most important moments, like when a goal is scored or during halftime when players take a break. You can pause the game at any time during these highlights to make changes to your team’s strategy. You can also make use of the Quick Play mode as well.

Game Modes

Soccer Manager 2024 offers two game modes that might seem similar at first but have some key differences. In Career Mode, you begin by selecting a club that you like. You have the freedom to take the reins of an existing team and guide them to success. At the top of the Home screen, you’ll notice the financial aspects and items. There are three key resources to keep an eye on, Cash, Gold, and Boosts. These resources play a significant role in your club’s operations and development.

Cash: Essentially your club’s money. It’s the funds you use for various purposes, including player transfers, salaries, and upgrading different aspects of your club.

Gold: Serves as the premium currency in the game. You can use it to purchase Cash for your club and to sign premium or spotlight players for your team.

Boosts: They can be applied to your players to enhance their performance efficiency. These boosts can help your players perform better on the field, giving your team an advantage during matches.

Game Menus

An overview of the Game Menus is something all the players would need.

Squad: Manage your club’s players, contracts, and data. You can see different details about their Rating, Potential, and others, and also sort them by clicking the parameter of your choice.

Tactics: Organize line-ups and instructions using the Tactics Menu. Drag and drop to change players. Preset formations are available if needed, and you can define your preferred playing style in the instructions section.

Transfers: Hub for player transfers and deals. You can keep track of your club transfers, search for football players around the world, and keep an eye on the world transfers that have happened.

Schedule: It helps you keep tabs on upcoming matches and provides reports on the outcomes and details of your previous matches.

Manager Menu: Your Menu as a manager. You can see the style of the manager, edit, and customize his looks. You can check and improve manager attributes, and traits, unlock perks, check objectives, career stats, and so on while keeping an eye on job opportunities.

League and Cups: There are multiple menus for this, helping you check the league table as well as the table and fixtures for Domestic, Continental, and International Cups.

Finances Menu: Overview of income and expenses. Monitor Projected profit/loss, indicated in green/red. Keep your club’s financial health in check with the help of this menu.

Stadium: An overview of your home ground. You can upgrade its appearance and seating capacity here, which will help in increasing your ticket sales revenue.

Club Zone: Access bonus features, including lucrative sponsorships, TV revenue, cash income, and injury management.

Training: Conduct player training drills and track individual player development. Upgrading provides more training slots and better-quality training.

Players, Managing your squad, and signings

For beginners, getting into the groove of team management is essential before delving into matches, which are the primary means of progression. Apart from the Goalkeeper (GK), you have three major roles to fill, Defender, Midfielder, and Attacker/Forward. A player’s primary position will be indicated by a color, which is green for GKs, Yellow for Defenders, Blue for Midfielders, and Purple for Forwards.

This is important when you are playing them. Playing your players out of their recommended position might affect your gameplay. While managing your squad, pay close attention to your players in the Squad section, particularly players whose contracts are expiring, especially those who are performing well.

Now, when it comes to player signing, I would suggest you take a look at your starting XI first. If you have doubts about any player in XI, or in the reserves, go for a player either by scouting or searching. At least have 22 players in your team, with a minimum of two Goalkeeper options, and 6-7 each in the remaining three positions.

When it comes to tactics, there may be moments of uncertainty for you. Personally, I recommend starting with the default settings and gradually experimenting with different formations. As you gain experience, you can tailor your strategy, whether it’s adopting an approach like From The Back or Park The Bus, and assess how effectively your players adapt to this tactic.

Next, delve into the general, attack, and defense sections, which are crucial when facing high-profile opponents. Understanding these aspects should be your top priority. For instance, if you’re using a central formation like 4-3-1-2 but allocate a Wide Width, it will not be effective. On the contrary, this instruction may work well for a 4-3-3 formation. Therefore, it’s essential to determine which strategies align with your squad’s strengths and adapt accordingly.
