A sound meter is also commonly referred to as a Sound Pressure Level meter (SPL meter), noise level meter, decibel meter (dB meter), sound level meter, or soundmeter. It is a highly useful application for conducting sound tests or measuring environmental noise (noise test).
The noise level meter or Sound Pressure Level Meter (SPL meter) utilizes the microphone of a smartphone or tablet to measure environmental noise in decibels (dB). The decibel (dB) value provided by this noise level meter or soundmeter may vary compared to an actual Sound Meter (dB Meter). Now you can easily conduct a noise measurement with your smartphone.
Caution:
The value displayed by the decibel meter or sound meter (dB meter) may not be as precise as that of an actual Sound Pressure Level Meter (SPL Meter), soundmeter, decibel meter, or noise level meter, due to most device microphones being optimized for human voice. To address this limitation, use an actual sound meter or Sound Pressure Level Meter (SPL meter) to adjust the decibel error as close as possible before use. If you do not own an actual Sound Pressure Level Meter (SPL meter), go to a very quiet location where sounds cannot be heard and adjust the reading value to 20-30 dB.
