Common Questions About Our Websites and Products
Can Starfall be translated into languages other than English?
Starfall uses English phonics, with special emphasis on sound and letter relationships unique to the English language to teach reading. Because of this, a direct translation of our content would not effectively teach emergent readers in other languages.
Spanish and French ABCs, based on the English ABC model, are available to Starfall.com members.
Does Starfall track or report student activity?
At Starfall, children learn through play. The free-flowing nature of our content is a vital aspect of the program and a large contributor to its success.
While we understand the need for progress reports for academic measurement, we are reluctant to require children to continually stop for assessments or to provide reports on student activity on our platform. We would prefer to allow a 3-year-old child to repeat the same letter over and over again, or an advanced 7-year-old to return to "Colors" simply because she likes the music. The important part is that children are engaged in the activities.
Learning involves more than merely choosing a right answer or following a predetermined script. We strive to encourage curiosity and self-confidence, and to preserve a child's feeling of personal privacy.
For these reasons, individualized tracking and reports are not provided by Starfall.
For institutions requiring usage data to qualify for funding, we can provide anaggregate usage report upon request.
Is Starfall research based?
Yes. We maintain rigorous standards for research. Our curriculum, materials, website activities, and teacher resources are based on extensive research and consultation with national experts in education.
For more information, please visit our Research Studies page.
Is the Starfall Kindergarten Curriculum aligned with Common Core?
Yes, the Starfall Kindergarten Curriculum is aligned with Common Core State Standards. Check out our "Comparison Chart" to see how Starfall's Standards & Benchmarks match up.
What is the reading level of your books?
Generally speaking, books in "Learn to Read" and "It's Fun to Read" are DRA level 1. Books in "I'm Reading" range from DRA level 8-16. Book sets from the Margaret Hillert "I'm Reading!" series are DRA level 8.
Visit The Starfall Store, select "Reading" then "Reading Levels" for a complete listing.
You may also find Starfall Book Levels at the Parent-Teacher Center.

Does the Starfall app support MDM and managed app configurations?
Managed app configurations with MDM (Mobile Device Management) software allow an administrator to deploy and configure the Starfall app on multiple mobile devices. Starfall now supports MDM key authentication in the Starfall app, versions 3.1.68 and higher from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
To configure the Starfall app with MDM, you will need your Starfall administrator email address and an MDM key. (You will also need your Starfall administrator password to obtain your MDM key.)
To locate the MDM key associated with your Starfall School, Class, or Teacher Membership, visit the Starfall website at www.starfall.com, sign in, and then go to Account Settings. Once there, click or tap the button labeled "Show MDM Key." Enter your Starfall administrator password to display the MDM key.
If you change your Starfall administrator email address or password, your Starfall MDM key will also change, and you will need to update it within your MDM software settings. Otherwise, your MDM key remains valid for the duration of your membership.
About Starfall:
Founded by Dr. Stephen Schutz, who struggled with dyslexia as a child, Starfall was created to provide untimed, multisensory interactive games that allow children to see, hear, and touch as they learn. Since its launch in 2002, Starfall has grown to include comprehensive language arts and mathematics programs for preschool through fifth grade. The platform emphasizes exploration, play, and positive reinforcement, making learning feel like play and fostering confidence and intrinsic motivation in children.
Starfall’s activities are research-based and aligned with state learning objectives, making it an effective tool for teaching emergent readers, children with special needs, and ELL (ESL) students. Widely used in schools and homeschools, Starfall continues to be a trusted educational resource.
