User Guide

- How to use the timer

1. In the top right corner of the home page, click the drop down menu

2. Click the book icon to open the timer settings.

3. There are 3 components to the timer

Timer Mode. The green bar at the top can be clicked. You can choose between 3 different timer modes.

Countdown: In this mode, the timer will count from whatever time you set to 0.

Stopwatch: in this mode, you do not set a time. Your time will count up from 0, and you stop the session when you are done. You will get occasional reminders in case you accidentally forget to turn the timer off. If you forgot to turn the timer off in this mode and you accidentally gained coins, these can be removed in Settings. You can also edit or delete incorrect time in the Study Tracker. (Please see How to use the Study Tracker)

Break (no coins). This is the mode you use when you want to take a break after a session. You do not gain or lose coins. This is preferred to using the emergency pause function in the middle of a session, in which you WILL lose gains after extended time.

    Timer Slider

Drag the gray bunny icon on the slider to set your time. The further to the right that you drag it, the more purple the slider bar will be. It goes up in increments of 5 minutes, up to 180 minutes.

    Color Tag

This icon looks like a tag to the left of the start button. Click it. You can choose a color to represent the subject that you are studying during the session. You can also type in the subject name that corresponds to the color. If you change your mind about the name or color later, it can be edited in the Study Tracker. (Please see How to use the Study Tracker)

4. Once you have these 3 items set, you can start your study session by clicking the Start button. You know you are in your session if the bunny is studying with a book. You will notice that under the drop down menu certain icons are grayed out. This is because you can only access essential study tools while you study.

5. To stop the study session, click the universal stop button (square). You will be asked if you are sure you want to end the session. You will gain coins for any time that you accumulated, even if you end the session early.

6. To pause the study session, click the universal pause symbol. You will be led to a page with motivational quotes and a pause timer that counts up. After some time, you will start to lose coins if you pause for too long. Therefore, using the pause timer as a break timer is NOT recommended. The pause feature is intended for you to use when you lose focus during your session and need redirection. It can also be used for short emergency breaks (e.g. bathroom breaks, grabbing a snack, texting back a friend).

7. Once you have completed your session, you will get a push notification on your phone. This notification may have sound/vibration depending on your phone settings. There is no audible alarm when you complete a session, as this feature is not currently possible with the game engine.

8. With the phone push notification, you will then see a “Great Work” page. When using the timer, you will gain 1 coin for every 10 minutes of studying. This rounds up from every 5 minutes. You have 4 options:

Watch a video ad to double the coins that you earned. Note: you can only gain up 10 extra coins per day through doubling coins. For example: You studied for 1 hr without pausing and gained 6 coins, you can double it for a total of 12 coins. At this point you have earned 6 out of 10 EXTRA coins for the day. If you study for another 1 hour session, you can still double coins, but instead of 12 coins, you will get only 10. This is because after your 6 coins, you can get a maximum of 4 more extra coins for the day from doubling. If you study any more for the day, you cannot double coins.

Click the book icon with the repeat symbol. This will repeat the study session that you just completed. This allows you to skip setting up the timer again if you want to keep studying. You will know you are studying because the bunny is studying with a book. You will also notice the coins you earned float to your coin count.

Click the coffee cup icon with the clock symbol. This will take you straight into a break (no coins) session. The amount of time in the break depends on the timer settings for the last completed break timer session. You will know you are in break mode because the bunny will not have a book. You will also notice the coins you earned float to your coin count.

Click the house icon. This will take you back to the home page. You will also notice the coins you earned float to your coin count.

- How to buy and place items

1. In the top right corner of the home page, click the drop down menu

2. Click the shopping cart to go to the store.

3. On the left side you will see different icons representing different categories within the store

Orange bunny icon. This represents the bunny cosmetics section.

Tree. This is the backgrounds section.

Paperclip. This is the miscellaneous section.

Pizza. This is the food section.

Paw print. This is the pets section.

Animated star. This is the animated items section.

These items can be bought with coins OR a combination of coins and carrots.

Trophy. This is the awards section.

Each award is unlocked once you reach certain levels of hours of study using the app. Once it is unlocked, you can choose to buy it to display on your homepage.

Megaphone. This is the announcements section.

4. When you click on an item, it will ask you if you want to buy it (green button) or preview it for 10 seconds. (purple button). Note: When you preview items, the layering of items does not accurately represent how items layer when you purchase them. Once you buy an item. You can add it to room (yellow button) or remove it from room (orange button). An easy way to remove all items from your homepage is to go to Settings and click the “Hide all items” button.

5. Once you add an item to the room, it will be placed in the center of the screen. There are 3 functions with items:

Dragging. Use your finger to drag the item.

Resizing. While holding down an item with one finger, use another finger to pinch in and out to change the size of the item.

Rotate. While holding down an item with one finger, use another finger to swivel around the item to rotate it.

6. If at any time you want to have the original item’s size and orientation, or if an item ever gets stuck or lost on your screen, you can remove the item from within the store, and re-add it. If the item does not move, go to setting and enable draggable items.

7. Alternatively you can use your coins to buy study music. Under the drop down menu, locate the music note. You can play music while you study and even while your phone screen is turned off. To stop the music you must go back to the music section to pause it.

- How to earn/use carrots

1. In the top right corner of the home page, click the drop down menu

2. Click the icon with the picture of the coin and carrot.

3. To earn carrots, click the green video play button. This will prompt a video ad for which you will gain 1 carrot for every ad you watch. You can do this a maximum of 5 times a day.

4. There are 2 things you can do with carrots.

Use it to buy or get discounted certain special items. This includes animated items, award ribbons/trophies, and special event items.

Use it to feed your bunny and increase your happy meter. This is only possible in happy meter mode, which can be turned on in Settings. (Please see How to use Happy Meter Mode). Once in this mode, if your carrot count in the top left corner is one or more, you can use your finger to drag a carrot from the top left corner carrot count, to the bunny. You will notice that the bunny eats the carrot and the happy meter bar will increase.

- How to save data/create an account

1. You can cloud save data by creating an account.

2. In the top right corner of the home page, click the drop down menu

3. Click the profile icon to create an account.

4. If you are a new user, click the purple text that says “New user? Sign-up”. Create any username that you want and a password. Create a password hint as well (Note: Do NOT make your hint the same as your password, otherwise your account may be compromised.). Then click the Register button. There is no way to recover a forgotten username or password. If you forgot your login info and still have your Study Bunny data, we recommend you just create another account as a new user to save your existing data. You also cannot delete accounts, so if you no longer want your account you can only abandon it.

5. You will now see that you are logged in. Your username will be displayed, along with 4 buttons. You can:

    Log off

    Cloud Save

This button will save your local app data that you see on your device to the cloud. Be careful when you switch devices that your app is not blank, otherwise you will overwrite what was last saved. You must have an internet connection. We HIGHLY recommend you click Cloud Save frequently so you don't lose your data. This is not done automatically so you must manually save.

    Cloud Load

This button will load your last saved cloud data onto your device. Be very careful that you have recently Cloud Saved BEFORE you Cloud Load. Otherwise all your local data will be overwritten with old cloud-saved data. When transferring data to a new device, download the blank app, log in to your account, then Cloud Load.

- How to use Honesty Mode

1. This is an optional mode you can turn on in Settings if you want negative reinforcement. If your timer is running and you leave the app then return to it, you will receive a page that will ask you “Were you distracted?” If you click “No”, you will return to the app and continue studying. If you click “Yes” you will be taken to a spinning wheel. You may lose 1 coin, 2 coins, or have to watch an ad.

2. This mode does not “block” your use of other apps, rather, when you return to the app, you must be honest about whether or not you were distracted. We find that strict blocking of apps requires many permissions and can be incorrectly punishing in some cases. To avoid these issues, we allow the user to make this judgement. (Even if the app did have a blacklist/whitelist feature, you could theoretically choose not to block a distracting app at any time... so just be honest with yourself!)

- How to use the Study Tracker

1. In the top right corner of the home page, click the drop down menu

2. Click the bar graph to go to the Study Tracker. The tracker automatically logs time that you studied with the timer. You can also manually add time and edit logged time in week view of the tracker.

3. You will initially see the month overview. The color and subject of the horizontal bars will correspond to what you set with the tag icon when you set your timer.

4. You will see a small plus symbol on the right side of the screen. Click it to add a subject with a color to the legend. Any existing lines on the legend can be clicked to edit the subject/color.

5. To hide/show the legend and plus symbol, look for the drop down menu on the bottom right corner of the screen. Click the green tag.

6. The other buttons under the drop down menu are the 8h button, which changes the horizontal axis between 8 hours and 16 hours, and the bar graph button, which will display study statistics.

7. You can also switch from month view to week view by clicking the toggle in the upper right hand corner. You cannot edit data in month view, but you CAN edit data in week view!

8. In week view, you will see your study hours displayed by the time of the day with vertical colored blocks. These blocks can be clicked and edited. When you click a color block, you will see a popup that says “Edit Session Block”. You can edit the color, start time, and end time. You can only edit time here in military time (24 hours). To edit the legend and its corresponding subject/colors, please read step 4 above.

9. Another editing feature in week view is the ability to add time to the tracker. This is helpful when you forgot to use the in-game timer. Click the big plus symbol above any day of the week to add time to that day. You will need to add time in military time. Choose a color. You can link a subject to the color by clicking the color listed in the legend and editing it.

10. Other buttons under the drop down menu in the bottom right corner of the screen is the “24:00” button which you can click to toggle between military time and “12:00” which is 12 hour AM/PM time for the vertical axis of time in week view of the tracker. The other button is “M/D” which you can use to flip the order of month and day if this applies to you in your country.

Overview of features in Settings

Redeem a code

Sometimes we give out codes for special limited time items or coins that we may give away on our social media accounts or in the app. We may also give you a code if you contacted us for customer support. You may need to restart the app for the changes to take effect after entering the code.

Bunny name

A name for your bunny will be displayed on your home page. You can always turn this option off.

Happy Meter

Refer to "How to use Happy Meter Mode". In Challenge mode, the happy meter resets to empty every day and it is significantly more difficult to fill up the bar.

Power Save Mode

Turning on power save mode will save battery but will make animation and scrolling very choppy and slow. If you want to save battery, we recommend using this mode when using the timer but turning it off to browse for items in the store.

Honesty Mode

Refer to the "How to use Honesty Mode" section of the tutorial.

Remove coins

If you left your stopwatch running and accidentally gained coins, you can remove them here. To edit excess time on the study tracker, refer to the “How to use the Study Tracker” section

Move/Rotate/Resize Bunny

You will see a ghost version of your bunny that you can reposition and resize. You can reset to the original location and size at any time in Settings.

Tutorial

Rewatch the app’s quick walkthrough for first-time downloads.

Hide all items

This will remove all items from your home page and reset the background to the default room. You still own all the items and you can go to the store to add back your items to the room.

Disable/enable draggable items

You can disable draggable items in your room if you don’t want them to move around a lot by accident, and enable draggable items to be able to drag them again.

Language (globe icon)

Here you will be able to change the language. Note that while most things will be translated, a few things will still be in English, like the store item names.

Credits

Here you can find the music credits for the artists that contribute their awesome music to the app!

Tips and Tricks

1. Follow our Instagram for special announcements about items and other prizes.

2. In the month of March we give away a limited edition birthday item on social media. In December, we give away a limited edition Squishie item

3. We also have random giveaways for Study Bunny merchandise and exclusive in-game items on Instagram. Existing social media followers will get an extra entry before the giveaway is announced in the app.

FAQ

1. Does Study Bunny block other apps?

No. Study Bunny does not prevent you from using your phone because many students use their phones to supplement their studying. We follow a self-accountability model and recommend you pause your session briefly when you get distracted. The timer will run if the app is in the background.

Alternatively you may use Honesty Mode, which you can turn on in Settings. In this mode you can decide whether or not you were distracted when you return to the app and receive a “punishment” (either losing coins or watching an ad). Please read the tutorial on “How to use Honesty Mode.”

2. Is there an alarm sound?

Yes, you must increase your phone's "notifications" volume. You may need to increase your ringtone volume first for this to work. The sound of your notification is based on what you set as your notification sound in phone settings. If your notifications are off but your ringtone is set to vibrate, you will get vibration as your alarm sound.

On Android, press the down volume button on the side of your phone and swipe the menu down. Increase the sliders for ringtone and notifications.

On iOS, turn off silent mode and increase your phone volume.

3. What do I do if the app crashes/doesn't open?

If you are an existing user, wait for the next update. This often fixes the issue, unless your operating system is outdated.

Try: phone settings, applications, app manager, Google Play Services, storage, clear data & cache. New users only: phone settings, applications, app manager, Study Bunny, storage, clear data & cache

4. Can the coin rate be increased?

No. Study Bunny is used by students at all levels - some study a little, some a lot. While item prices vary, most require long term work, which means you should try to save up for expensive items. Having too many inexpensive items increases the file size of the app and clutters the store. We have accomodated this frequent request by rounding up study minutes (e.g. between 5-10 minutes will now get 1 coin instead of the minimum 10) and by increasing coin opportunities through ads for those who do not study as much. Ways to gain extra coins:

Double coins after study sessions up to 10 bonus coins per day

    Eight free daily coins.

Use Happy Meter mode to gain extra coins when the meter is full.

5. Why am I not getting coins?

Please check the following:

Pausing study sessions. You lose coins if you use the pause button longer than 7 minutes. Remember that pause is for brief emergencies. If you want a real break without penalty, use break timer mode.

Accidentally in Break (no coins) timer mode. Make sure your timer is set to either Countdown or Stopwatch.

Did not study for at least 5 minutes straight.

6. Can we have a sell back option?

We have decided not to add a sell back feature for items because allowing items to be temporarily owned defeats the purpose of studying to earn more coins.

I really liked this app and would have given it 5 stars. It's great for setting study timers and I enjoy using its features. Saving up to buy items for the cute bunny is a fun motivator. But now I have to rate it low because of the latest update. Previously, the app worked fine even without wi-fi or mobile data, but now I can't even open it without a connection. Apart from that, the app is fantastic. It's just this small issue that's spoiling the experience for me.

This app has truly made a huge difference in my life! I'm a bright student, but I struggle with focus. A friend suggested this app to me and I am thrilled with it! I started using it in my first year of high school and have continued ever since. I enjoy being able to personalize the space. The calming music is a nice touch as it helps me stay focused without any distractions. I adore this app and highly recommend it to anyone else who struggles with focus.

This app is great! I was doubtful it could motivate me to study, but it did! However, it crashes sometimes during study sessions and doesn't save my progress. Please fix this issue. Other than that, I'm really satisfied with the app and appreciate that the ads are not overwhelming. Thanks!

This app is awesome for motivating me to study. It used to work without WiFi, which was perfect because I don't have data and I like turning on airplane mode to focus. I'm disappointed that the offline feature is no longer available. The prices for the offline functionality are too steep for just one app. I understand that developing an app takes work though.

I like this timer a lot because it's cute and lets me do other things while I study. The month and week view are helpful too. It would be better if the happy meter was linked to a study goal that I could set because the current modes are either too easy or too hard. Besides that, this is the only study app I always use.

This app is amazing! I use it daily to monitor my revision progress. The chart showing my progress motivates me to study. I appreciate the minimal ads. It's the top study app for me! The only minor issue is that sometimes the stats show 60 minutes instead of an hour, like saying I've studied 2 hours and 60 minutes instead of 3 hours. Not a big deal, just a small thing :)

I really like this app! The items available for purchase are great, and you only need a few hours of studying to get them. Also, the bunny is so cute! One thing I wish for is phone notifications when my bunny is getting sad to motivate me to study. I tend to forget to study and then forget about my bunny. Having a notification system would remind me to study! Adding a nose to the little guy would be nice too.

The app is cute, but it crashes. I love this app and want to keep using it, but unfortunately, it often crashes when I switch between windows. It also occasionally doesn't save the coins I've earned after studying. I hope the developers can fix these issues because it helps me work more efficiently. I like the adorable illustrations and the built-in music tracks. The bunny is charming and makes using the app enjoyable.
