Tips for solving Sudoku

1. Start with simple rows and columns

Before starting to solve Sudoku puzzles, it is recommended to begin by looking at the rows and columns in the grid that are already populated with numbers. This will help you understand the missing numbers in the grid. Look for numbers that have only one possibility and fill them in accordingly, leaving the difficult portions for later.

2. Use the process of elimination

When you see a particular number missing from a row, column, or 3×3 box, you can eliminate the numbers that won't fit in those cells. For example, if a row column needs a number between 1 to 9, and you find out that 1, 2, and 3 are already there, then 4 to 9 would be the numbers that could fit into the remaining cells of that row or column.

3. Focus on the corners

Corner cells are important because they determine the possible candidate values for the remaining cells in that 3×3 box.

4. Look for patterns

Patterns are an essential tool in solving Sudoku puzzles. These repeating patterns occur when the same value occurs two or more times in a row, column, or 3×3 box. If you identify a pattern, then you can eliminate the values that don’t fit in.

5. Don't guess

Guessing is not allowed in Sudoku puzzles. A cell in Sudoku should only be filled when you are certain of its value, based on the analysis of the rows, columns, boxes, and eliminated values.

6. Be patient

Sudoku can be challenging, and sometimes, it's easy to get stuck. The key is to stay patient and avoid getting frustrated. Take a break if you need to or come back to it later with a fresh mind.
