The Benefits of Reading Surah Waqiah

By reading Surah Waqiah, one will never fall into poverty, and all the needs of the person will be fulfilled.

Every Surah in the Qur’an has many healing benefits. Surah Al-Waqiah is one that offers this amazing benefit when read. There are hadiths related to reading Surah Al-Waqiah.

Our Prophet (SAW) said in a hadith, “Whoever recites Surah Waqiah at night will never encounter poverty” (Ibn Sunni 620).

Another hadith from our Prophet (SAW) states, “Surah Waqiah is the Surah of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children” (Ibn Asakir).

Many Islamic Scholars and Shaikh Ul Hadith discuss this and recommend making it a habit to read Surah Waqiah every night after Isha prayer. Some suggest reading it after Maghreb, but after Isha is considered the best time.

Revelation History

According to Quranic commentators, Surah Waqiah is a Meccan sura, revealed during the Meccan period of Muhammad's (SAW) prophethood. Some commentators argue that part of it was revealed in the Medinan period. Some suggest verses 39-40, others 81-82, and still others point to verse 83.

The traditional Egyptian chronology places the chapter as the 41st by the order of revelation (after Al-Tur), while the Nöldeke Chronology places it as the 46th. In the Quran, it is positioned as the 56th chapter, following Ar-Rahman which discusses a somewhat related topic. Commentators like Ahmad ibn Ajiba see Al-Waqi'a as a continuation of Ar-Rahman.
