SWAT and Zombies Season 2 - Swatting the walking dead
SWAT and Zombies Season 2 is a new mobile game of simple designs but highly addictive gameplay. You’ve probably heard about or played the previous game or similar titles - Plants Vs. Zombies, obviously - and this is as appealing as they come.
So, SWAT and Zombies Season 2 is self-explanatory: you control a team of SWAT members fighting the zombie threat in the oddly named Perfectville, the final bastion of peace. To do so, you must select your units and place them in the appropriate spots, while the zombies come from the right side gnashing and chewing their way into the city. Sounds easy, right?
Not quite. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration, as each SWAT member uses different weaponry, from a selection of 50. From batons to pistols, rifles, shotguns and later, even bazookas make an appearance. The most important thing to master is each unit’s range – you must place them in a way that you know will hit the zombies. For example, placing a melee SWAT member in the back of a lane usually isn’t a good strategy, as he should be on the frontline, with long-range units supporting him right after. On the other hand, considering that the 35 different kinds of zombies have unique skills, suddenly this becomes a much more complicated affair.
You have your regular ‘braaaains’ zombies, but it gets much more elaborate soon, with skateboarding zombies, bowling zombies, javelin-throwing zombies… It’s like they were really into sports before they went full green. Dog zombies are also a thing, and the fat, huge zombies will take a lot of bullets to go down. It’s a diverse bunch and it gets chaotic in a minute.
The goal in each level is to stop the zombies from destroying the fence and exiting the screen. Sounds straightforward but gets messy when you discover a breed of zombies that appear from underground using manholes. These boys are capable of ruining even the most brilliant tactics, as they show up closer to the fence and divert the closer SWAT’s attention, disregarding the hordes coming from the front. Also, you must swipe the screen to collect the currency that you need to summon more units to the battle, and never, ever forget that these highly trained soldiers are incapable of reloading by themselves – you have to touch them to hear the satisfying click of a weapon being reloaded.
I’m particularly fond of the sniper rifle. You must aim the bullet yourself by setting the sights over your target, and this can be done in any of the lanes. It is a vital long-range unit, especially to take down those zombies that attack from afar, but it is quite expensive.
You can, of course, upgrade your units as well as their weapons, and there is a plethora of material for extra damage or better defense. This takes coins and time but is essential for progressing in the game, and there's the mandatory cash shop if you want to spend some real money to get some in-game currency or items.
Apart from the Adventure mode in Perfectville (which includes day and night levels, doubling the amount available), there are other game modes in SWAT and Zombies Season 2. The Arena mode is the clear highlight, as this is where real time PvP takes place, and with an interesting twist: the zombies are now your allies. Or, at least, YOUR zombies. You get to choose your starting team as you do with the SWAT units.
You and your rival are placed in an American football stadium and must defend yourself from the enemy zombie attacks, while at the same time launching your own offense. It’s a lot of fun and frantic, and it becomes quite demanding tactics-wise. Definitely one of the highlights, if not the highlight of this game.
There are more game modes in SWAT and Zombies Season 2, offering you plenty of challenges, but it’s highly advised to finish the adventure first, as this is where new units and zombies are regularly unlocked.
SWAT and Zombies Season 2 is a fun and light-hearted game, one that can be enjoyed when you have a break from school or work. It starts simple but quickly evolves into a challenge, as it opens plenty of options for you to explore.
