CONS

the bots have been really negative recently

People can only see my answers if they're using the app on their phone

Tellonym offers a simple way to connect with your friends by allowing you to ask questions, respond to anonymous queries, receive sincere feedback, and gain better insights into yourself and your friends!

Some information we should know:

Tellonym is a platform very similar to Ask, where users can create completely anonymous profiles that can be used to post questions and comments without anybody recognising or judging them.

The way it works is very simple: create your own personal profile with a username of your choice, upload a profile picture, and include any essential information that you'd like to share. That's all that's required - nothing more! Once you're logged in, you can pose questions to the whole community (responses from other users are also anonymous), or share your opinion about whatever you want without any kind of limitation. You can also comment on other user's posts without fear of losing friends or causing arguments.

This app will give you the benefit of anonymity; use it wisely and enjoy it without offending or hurting anybody. Tellonym can connect you with your friends or with other users from all over the world to create a large pool of questions, answers and messages to pique your curiosity and excite you to get to know other members of the community. You can follow a profile if you like its activity, or block any profile that you don't want to keep in contact with so that you can enjoy Tellonym in a fun and safe way.

What is the Tellonym app?

The Tellonym app allows students (and strangers) to ask and answer questions anonymously

When users sign up they get a link they share with friends

Friends can ask questions (called “Tells”) using that link. Only the user being asked can see the questions

Many students put their link in their Instagram bio or Snapchat snaps

If the user chooses to answer a question, their answer and the original question are then posted to their public profile

Every profile is public by default

Profiles include a profile picture, a name, a custom status, and answered questions

According to the app “All information publicly visible on a profile was provided by the account owner and can be removed from the public eye.”

Tellonym allows users to follow others and see their answers

The search feature allows users to look for others based on their age, gender, and location

Users can ask questions anonymously or users can choose to add their name

Users can block other users without the app notifying the follower

Users can report questions without revealing to the other user that they are being reported

The Tellonym app can be linked to a user’s Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter account, meaning inappropriate messages can include inappropriate images

Users can filter content based on specific keywords

Why should parents care?

Students tend to behave poorly if they feel like they can hide behind an anonymous app

Everyone on the app is anonymous - which means this app is dangerous and strangers may contact your child

The Tellonym app is a breeding ground for cyberbullying behavior

Users can receive sexually explicit messages and insults

There are reports of law enforcement getting involved due to threats made on the app by students

This app has already had so many complaints that they created Law Enforcement and Parental Advisory Guides that are available on their website

When teens connect anonymous apps to their Instagram or Snapchat they open themselves up to being targeted by strangers across platforms

I gave the old version of the app two stars. The new ones are terrible. I couldn't click on the likes my tells received, even though my app was fully updated. This problem has been fixed, but I preferred how the older version displayed the number of likes. The biggest problem I have with Tellonym is that the pictures I post on my tells and others' pictures never load; it always shows 'couldn't load image.' It's really annoying. Please fix it.

I used to enjoy using this app. Lately, there are too many bot accounts, with half of the users being bots linked to Instagram accounts promoting sex services. It's frustrating that there are no effective measures to prevent or report them. I wish there was an option to make my account private so only my friends and those with the link can view my posts.

I love this app! The messages can be intense, like love confessions, old friends reuniting, or betrayals. It's not the app's fault, but sometimes I wish I knew who wrote each message. Overall, it's a fantastic app and I love using it.

You really like it and think it's awesome. You have a suggestion to improve it by allowing users to choose whether their question is anonymous or not, instead of it always being anonymous.

The app is kind of cool, but sometimes you get messages from bots which is annoying because they might be trying to make it seem like there are more people using the app than there really are. It's frustrating that you can't turn off these automated messages or tell which ones are automated.

My account is super slow and keeps glitching, making it hard for me to log in. I'm sure my email is right because I get the password reset emails, but even with a new password, I can't access my account. Also, I feel like most of the questions come from bot accounts. 🤔

I've been using this app for many years. Although I appreciate the idea behind it, there are many bot questions. Lately, it's been having some issues. When I spend more than a few minutes on it, which happens frequently because I answer questions in batches every week or two, it freezes and occasionally crashes my phone. It's quite frustrating because at first, I thought the problem was with my phone, but all my other apps are working perfectly fine.
