Stay updated on the latest earthquakes in Italy and visualize them on the map along with active faults and the map of Italian seismic hazard.
Check the population affected (within 20 km from the epicenter), distance from your home, and the instrumental duration of the tremors.
Share on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, or via email or SMS.
Research earthquakes that have occurred since the year 1000.
Keep an eye on the widget with the map of the latest events (may not work if the app is moved to SD).
See how the seismic sequences unfolded. Receive alerts for new tremors and automatic updating of the list when the application is inactive.
Occasionally, very strong earthquakes occurring in other parts of the world but detected by Italian instruments may also be included in the list.
The data is sourced from the website of the National Institute of Geophysics, published at least 15/30 minutes after the earthquake.
Terremoti Italia
With Terremoti Italia you can draw on an infinite archive of information regarding seismic events that have occurred in Italy. Thanks to the data taken from the website of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, this software is able to record all the earthquakes that have occurred in our country with a maximum delay of 30 minutes from the event. The archive presents all the telluric movements that have occurred from the year 1000 to today, and thanks to an accurate map you can know the cities affected by the earthquake and the distance from the current position.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1) I am not receiving notifications for new tremors: why?
Increasingly, there are energy-saving systems on Android phones that put applications to sleep. To receive notifications correctly, prevent Terremoti Italia from being listed as one to be "put to sleep."
2) Why is the widget no longer working for me?
You may have moved the application to SD. Android does not allow the functioning of widgets for apps on SD.
3) Sometimes alerts do not arrive or arrive late.
If the application is moved to SD, there may be disruptions when the SD card is unmounted.
4) When I open the map, the application crashes.
Some Android devices have a software defect in Google Maps display. If the issue occurs with other applications as well, it could be due to this. For example, problems are noted with Wiko devices running Android 4.2, which can be resolved by updating to the next version of Android 4.4.
5) Why is there a half-hour delay between the tremor and the alert in the application?
There is a minimum delay with which INGV publishes the data. Currently, there are no faster sources. Sometimes the delay may increase (1 hour); rarely, it may decrease.
6) The application would be more useful if it provided warnings BEFORE the tremor. Is this possible?
It may seem like a joke, but sometimes this question is asked. Unfortunately, current scientific knowledge DOES NOT ALLOW predicting the time and place of tremors. In Italy, we are at the forefront of research in this field, knowing very well instead which areas are most at risk and where building should be done with due caution!
7) Why is the reported time different from that on the INGV website?
The time on the INGV site is Greenwich Mean Time without daylight saving time. The application reports the correct time according to the phone settings (+2 in Italy with daylight saving time).
8) Could a filter be added for locations of interest?
The locations are added by INGV technicians and may not follow a well-defined convention: a filter based on distance and displaying the distance of the tremors is available.
9) Can a longer historical record be provided?
The historical data is based on the Italian Seismic Bulletin dating back to 2002 and a historical database with data up to the year 1000.
10) What about earthquakes in other nations?
In some cases, INGV also includes these earthquakes, presumably because of their significant intensity and detection in our region.
11) When I open the map, the app crashes.
There are commercially available devices with poorly made ROMs on which apps using Google Maps (except Google Maps itself) do not work. One such device is the Mediacom 715 (first version).
12) In what scale is magnitude expressed?
Richter Scale.
