How much data does TVNZ+ use?

The following is how much data TVNZ+ uses when streaming content:

- On Desktop (web) with DSL connection, 1-hour of video uses 1.85GB of data rate including all ads.

- In the Mobile App on iOS with 3G connection, 1-hour of video uses 1.38GB of data rate including all ads.

- In the Mobile App on Android with 4G connection, 1-hour of video uses 1.75GB of data rate including all ads.

Why cant I choose a video stream quality?

Our TVNZ+ app uses a technique called 'adaptive bitrate streaming'.

This means it works by detecting your available connection speed and device capabilities and then selects a picture quality that best matches these at that very moment.

If your available connection speed changes while video is being played out, the picture quality will adjust as required. This results in very minor freezing of video, fast start time and ultimately the best viewing experience possible regardless of your device or connection speed. Hope that translation helped!

Why can't I view TVNZ+ from my current location?

For International Viewers: Unfortunately, TVNZ content is not available to overseas viewers. This is because we don't have the legal rights outside of New Zealand in our agreements with content providers. To allow this would put TVNZ at risk of keeping our great shows in the future!

For New Zealand Viewers: If you are in New Zealand, and our service is telling you that you are overseas, can you please check the following: 

- Double check that your Play/App Store is correctly registered to New Zealand. 

- Double check that your device/computer time settings are set to New Zealand. 

Double check that your IP address is correct. You can check that here

Double check that you don't have proxy servers or a VPN active in your household.

Can I watch TVNZ+ using an HDMI cable?

TVNZ+ does support HDMI cables as most modern Smart Televisions require this feature. 

TVNZ+ Digital Rights Management (DRM) blocks non-compliant devices that do not meet the requirements of High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).

Why am I getting an Unrecoverable Error message on my iOS device?

If you are presented with this error message, you may need to uninstall/stop running any third party applications like Ad blockers or a VPN installed on your device.

Why doesn't TVNZ+ support Rooted Android devices?

Rooted Android devices are not supported on TVNZ+ to protect digital rights of our content.

To use TVNZ+ you'll need to restore your Android device to remove the rooted software.
