How can I speed up the export of my video?

The export speed depends on many factors, but are primarily affected by the following:

    - Computer's hardware specifications (CPU, hard drive, memory, etc)

    - Complexity of video (number of clips and effects, length)

    - Video export settings, including format, encoder, and rate factor/bit-rate.

How do I add or adjust video effects?

Each clip in your sequence has a small yellow star on the left side of the clip. When you click on the star, the Video Effects window opens.

In the Video Effects window, you can add an effect with the Add Effect button or edit existing effects in the Applied Effects section.

Visit our Video Effects page for additional editing suggestions.

How do I censor or pixelate an area of a video with VideoPad?

First, you would need to load the video on VideoPad and select it to be previewed. Click on Video Effects, then Add Effect Mask. You will get a square selection on the screen that you can use to select the area where the effect is to be applied. When the Polygon Mask menu shows up, you may click on the box to Mask inside and click to show animation line for the mask shape parameter. Using this line parameter, you can select where in the video (position) the mask will be applying the effect to. This process can be time consuming, but it can only be set manually to apply the effect only where the mask is positioned, and not to affect the whole video.

How do I select the correct resolution for the video output?

Use the following steps to maintain the same resolution as the source video.

1 Click on the Export menu

    2 Click on Video File

3 From the Resolution drop-down list, Choose Auto Match Content

4 Select the other options (such as Frame Rate) and click Create

If you are exporting a video for YouTube or other online sites, they will have recommended settings. Many of these settings are in the Preset drop-down list in the Video Output Setup dialog box.

How do I use Green Screen?

Green Screen is easy to use in VideoPad. You'll need two video clips on your main sequence: the background image on a lower track (such as Video Track 1) and the main object on a higher track (such as Video Track 2). For best results, the background of the main object (which you'll remove) must be a very consistent color (e.g., without highlights or shadows), and that same color must not appear on actors or objects if you don't want to remove the color there as well.

The Green Screen effect is in the Video Effects dialog, which you can open by clicking the Effects button. From the Video Effects dialog, click the drop menu at the top and select Green Screen and click Add to add the effect to the Applied Effects list. Click the Configure Effect button to open the Green Screen Select dialog.

Select the color you want to remove by clicking on a color in the clip preview, or by clicking on the color picker control. Change the Background and Foreground values to adjust how similar a color has to be to the selected color for it to be removed.

The Background value can not exceed the Foreground value. As you move one slider, the other may move automatically, to maintain this relationship.

Video Editing for YouTube

VideoPad Video Editing Software is recognized as an industry leader in YouTube video editing applications. This software gives YouTube video editors access to a variety of important features for creating and publishing content for YouTube.

    - Users can save their login credentials to upload videos directly to YouTube. This saves the extra step of exporting the video to your computer before uploading. When you are finished editing your movie project, you can add titles, tags, and descriptions and then upload the video directly to your YouTube channel.

    - Adjust the aspect ratio of videos for YouTube with choices from 480p to 4K. VideoPad allows users to choose specific video output settings for YouTube so that your video can be viewed at its best.

    - 360 video editing for 360 YouTube videos allows users to seamlessly edit 360 videos.

When I convert my project to a DVD or AVI many of the pictures drop out.

This kind of issue generally occurs because all formats, resolution, encoding settings are not compatible with all players.

If you are using any high resolution images in your project then please try once after keeping the resolution 'less than 1280 X 720 'of your images. Change the resolution of your images to '1280 X 720 or less than 1280 x 720 ' & then add those to VideoPad to make your video.

or

Try to play your video in a HDTV. (Example: You can use Wi-Fi to stream the file to "Apple TV" to see a perfect video.)

Will your program allow us to substitute background images (jpg) in our videos?

You can put a person or object in front of a new background using the Chroma Key effect in VideoPad. To achieve this effect, you'll need two video clips on your main sequence: the background image on a lower track (such as Video Track 1) and the main object on a higher track (such as Video Track 2). For best results, the background of the main object (which you'll remove) must be a very consistent color (e.g., without highlights or shadows), and that same color must not appear on actors or objects if you don't want to remove the color there as well.

The Chroma Key effect is in the Video Effects dialog, which you can open by clicking the Effects button. From the Video Effects dialog, click the drop menu at the top and select Chroma Key and click Add to add the effect to the Applied Effects list. Click the Configure Effect button to open the Chroma Key Select dialog.

General Support Questions

All my videos are .vpj and I cannot play them outside VideoPad.

.VPJ files contain the VideoPad project files and can only be opened in VideoPad. They do not actually include the videos to be played. They are meant to save your work in between sessions before you are ready to build your final movie.

To create a movie that can be played outside of VideoPad, click the Export Video button in the Home tab toolbar, and choose an output format to save the video.

DirectX is not supported

If you are seeing this, you may need to update your DirectX runtime.

To download the web installer, follow these steps

    - Go to Microsoft's website by clicking here

    - Click "Download"

    - Follow the given instructions to finish installing

If you are still getting this error

If following the above steps does not help, confirm that you have Windows XP (or higher) installed and you have the most up to date graphics drivers.

Exported WMV video slows down

The WMV (Windows Media Video) format has a maximum video bit-rate. When this maximum is reached in a video file, the video frame rate will drop to compensate for the high bit-rate. This will result in undesired output from VideoPad.

This should never happen under most circumstances but it has been observed when exporting 720p and 1080p videos with the Noise effect applied at its maximum noise level.

To work around this limitation, you could:

    - Export to a different format such as H.264 or MPEG4

    - Reduce the noise level of the Noise effect

    - Export at a lower resolution

I cannot upload movies to YouTube

You must create a YouTube "channel" for your Google account before you can upload any videos. See Create a channel for more information.

By default, only videos up to 15 minutes long can be shared on YouTube. To share longer videos, you must verify your identity. See Upload videos longer than 15 minutes for more information.

MPEG video is choppy

When exporting to MPEG from VideoPad and viewing the output video in a media player such as VLC, you may notice that the video is choppy, has a very inconsistent frame rate or freezes. This could be because there is too much detail in the video or the resolution is too high.

If this problem occurs then you could try the following to work around the MPEG limitation:

    - Export to a different format such as H.264 AVI

    - Reduce the resolution of your video

    - Reduce the amount of detail in your video

Preview playback is slow and shows 'Buffering' message

If you are seeing the 'Buffering... Please wait.' message while previewing video in VideoPad, it means that your video can not be rendered for preview in real-time.

The performance of the video preview player depends on many factors, including:

    - The specifications of your computer

    - Running other resource demanding applications at the same time

    - The complexity of your VideoPad project

    - The preview settings of VideoPad

How to increase the performance of the preview

-Upgrade your computer. More RAM and a faster CPU will always help. Also consider a solid state drive (SSD) to speed up reading of media and cache.

    - Close other applications while using VideoPad. Examples of resource demanding applications include video players and 3D games.

Note: The performance and quality seen in the preview does not represent what will be seen after the video is finally exported from VideoPad. The final export will generally look much better.

Suggestion: To improve performance or tackle slow playback and Buffering issues, you may want to install Microsoft HEVC coding (HEVC Video Extensions), you can download this from the Microsoft Store.

VideoPad crashes

If you are experiencing graphical issues, frequent crashes, or slow processing speeds, you should download and install the latest drivers for your graphics hardware and update to the latest version of DirectX (see below). Many of these problems are known to be caused by older graphics card drivers.

Even on newer computers, it is always recommended that you check that the latest drivers are installed, as manufacturers have been known to rely on default hardware support, instead of installing the appropriate software prior to customer purchase.

Accelerated Graphics

Many programs utilize OpenGL and DirectX to improve functionality on modern computers. When support is available, OpenGL and DirectX use your computer's graphics card to complete many graphics related operations many times faster than they would normally be able to do using the CPU alone. Older drivers often do not support the functionality required to use OpenGL and DirectX effectively. This can slow down the program considerably, produce noticeably incorrect results, and may cause the program to crash unexpectedly.

Issues related to either OpenGL or DirectX can almost always be resolved by making sure you have the most up to date drivers for your computer.

Updating Drivers

It is recommended that you always install the latest drivers on your system to avoid stability problems. Instructions for updating the most common graphics display devices are listed below. If the brand of your computer's device is not listed, please refer to the manufacturer for further help.

VideoPad crashes when browsing for files

There is a problem in Windows 8 and 8.1 which causes applications to crash when generating thumbnail previews for some .mov video files.

To fix the issue, try updating Windows. If that does not work, you can work around the issue by uninstalling the Windows Update KB2995388.

VirtualDub effect plugin crashes

VirtualDub effect plugins are created by third parties and not maintained by us in any way.

If VideoPad crashes while you are using a VirtualDub effect plugin in one of your clip's effect chains then all that we can do to help is to recommend that you stop using that particular plugin.

Some plugins which have been known to cause crashes are:

    - MSU Denoiser

    - MSU Cartooniser

An app that I really like was banned many times for phone users, but I found it in a library. I thought it was still available, so I downloaded it. I had no problems with it, even though I was using Android 9. I initially thought it was only for certain devices, but I was wrong. I'm just happy to have it back again.
