Why did The Washington Post Select (blue icon) app go away?

Through experimenting with two distinct news apps over the years, we have learned a lot about how to improve our products to better meet your needs. The two apps’ features and experiences have grown closer over time, so we are bringing the best parts of the Select app (blue icon) to the primary Washington Post app (black icon). The Select app is no longer available on iOS and Android, but you can access every story from The Post and helpful new features inside our primary app. Download it here.

What about The Washington Post Select app for Amazon Fire tablets?

The redesigned primary app will be delivered to you as a standard app update on your Fire tablet. You won’t have to take any additional steps to get the latest.

How can I take my saved stories with me?

You will need an account to migrate your saved stories.

If you’re not logged into the Select app, follow the prompts on the migration screens to sign in or create an account. Your subscription (and/or account) will automatically transfer.

If you’re already logged in, select “Update now” and your subscription and saved stories will transfer to the new app.

If you have any issues, please reach out to us and we’re happy to help.

You can mute the alert sounds on your Galaxy Note 8 device. When you tap on an alert to read a story, sometimes the app freezes and you might see a spinning circle on a black screen. In that case, you have to navigate back to the main page and manually search for the article since it may not be immediately visible in the news feed.

Three months before the last election, I subscribed to broaden my perspective. It was a great decision. Seeing the front page of the physical newspaper now and then brings back nostalgic joy of holding a paper in hand. However, most times I just stick to reading the notification articles.

I really like this app, but there's one thing bothering me - the navigation. When I click on the most-read links, I wish I could easily go back to the home page without having to go through all the articles I read before. The newspaper title and tag are right there at the bottom of each page, where you'd expect a link in most apps, but it's not clickable. It's frustrating, but hey, I guess that's just a first-world problem. Other than that, subscribing to this paper is definitely worth every penny.

Picture this - you've subscribed to a newspaper, but when you try to read an article on their app, it keeps closing after just 10 seconds and crashing. It's up-to-date and all, but it's frustrating because you're not getting your money's worth. Also, they keep switching the hosts for the Seven in the morning and changing the music all the time which is really annoying. You just want straight-up news, not different personalities hosting a podcast or funky transition music. All you want is the news.

Wow, the app feels really well-designed. It's so intuitive that you can start using it effortlessly without any prior knowledge. It's like reading a newspaper but with better ways to find the articles you are interested in. I do have one small issue though – sometimes it quickly jumps to another article if you accidentally brush against the screen while scrolling within an article. Other than that, it serves its purpose well by allowing you to read the newspapers you have subscribed to.

This app is great. The font is clear and easy to read, it loads quickly without too many ads, and the news and other content are always being updated. Navigating through the newspaper is easy and intuitive. I particularly enjoy using the night mode with a black screen and white letters; I always use it. It would be nice to have a 'most popular' column like the one in The New York Times. Overall, it's a fantastic way to read the paper.
