FAQ

WHAT ACTUALLY IS A VIN?

In short, the VIN is like a fingerprint of the car.

Here is more about it.

Vehicle Identification Number

VIN (an acronym for Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique code used by the automotive industry to identify every car, bus, truck, motorcycle or even a trailer. The VIN format was standardized only in 1981 by USA National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Since then, all sold on-road vehicles must have a 17-character-long VIN consisting only digits and capitals. The VIN number cannot include the letters I, O and Q in order to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0.

Where you can find the VIN?

The most common place to find a VIN is on your vehicle's dashboard, specifically near where the dashboard meets the edge of the windshield on the driver's side. You can also find it on the driver's door, on your insurance card or on your vehicle's documents.

I tested it on my four cars, which range from old to new, but I couldn't find any information about them. It was quite disappointing, as it ended up being a waste of time.

I looked for license plates from Portugal, but couldn't find any. This app is not helpful.

So, I downloaded this app and not even a minute later, I got all these annoying pop-up ads telling me to buy stuff. Come on, I just installed it! Uninstalled right away and gave it a measly one-star rating. LOL.

It used to work really well, but for a while now it can't find any vehicles in France. It's disappointing because it was a really handy tool.

Sure! Let's add all the countries. Romania is one example.

Dark mode doesn't function, also none of the cars I attempted in Portugal worked. Totally useless.

Oh, I really like this app that I've been using for a year. Lately, though, every time I check a plate, it no longer shows the manufacturer and year like it used to. I even tried plates that used to work fine, but now they don't show that information anymore. Can you please fix this problem? Thank you.

So, when I try to search for Spanish number plates, it tells me that it can't find the vehicle with those plates. There could be a few reasons for this: either the plate doesn't actually exist, the car is too new, or the owner chose to keep their information private when registering the car. Interestingly, when I looked up French and Dutch plates, they worked just fine. Could you please take a look at this issue with the Spanish plates? Thank you so much! - JD
