Nearby

Our Nearby feed displays Whispers that are posted in your area. By adjusting the distance, you can now see Whispers that are being posted closer and farther away. By adjusting the distance, you can see Whispers being posted from a mile away to 50 miles away.

If your Nearby feed is not displaying new Whisper posts Nearby, please make sure your Location is turned on within your device settings.

Our Latest feed displays most recent Whispers created by users all over the world.

My Account

The “My Account” section is where you can access your Whisper history, view your notifications, and access the app’s settings. You can also invite friends to join the app from this section!

To access this page, tap the silhouette on the bottom toolbar.

If you have your PIN enabled, you may be prompted to enter a PIN. See the section on PIN if you want more information.

Once in your account window, your screen should look like this:

You can click to view whispers you’ve posted, whispers you’ve hearted, and whispers you’ve replied to.  In the Activity feed below, you can view notifications relating to whispers you have posted.

Schools

“Schools” is Whisper’s feature for students! The Schools feature allows you to view whispers made at your school. To unlock your school, you must be at or near your school. If you are not near your school, you may request access in advance, but will be able to unlock your school when you are near it again. Once you have joined a school group, you will be able to see and post whispers within that group.

*You must enable location services to enjoy this feature of the app. Please refer to our Privacy Policy to better understand our location and data collection practices.

To join a school group, click on the My School icon on the top menu bar

Next, click Find My School and enter your school’s name in the search field. You will then be prompted to confirm your selection.

Once confirmed, your school group will be added to your top menu bar.

*Remember, if you are not on campus at the time of joining a school group, you will be unable to post or view whispers in that group. To unlock the school group, open the app once on campus.

Popular

Our Popular page displays posts that are popular in the Whisper community and favorites found by our curators. The more hearts and replies your whisper receives, the greater the chances that you'll see your whisper here!

Groups

“Groups” is Whisper’s newest feature! The Groups feature allows you to curate topics with whispers and connect with other users with shared interests!

To create a new Group, click on "Create A Group" from the Groups page.

Next, enter your Group name (required) and add a description for your Group (optional). We'll then suggest a few Group images from which you can choose by tapping the camera icon (required).

Tap "Create" when finished.

To search for a Group, click "Find a Group" from the Groups page, then enter your interest in the search field.

Tap the + icon to join a Group from the list of results

After you create or join a Group, invite your friends to join it too! promote your group! 

How to  Create a Whisper

To create a Whisper, tap on the plus sign (+) on the bottom toolbar.

Next, enter the text of your whisper. When you are done typing, press “Next” to select your whisper’s image. You can use a suggested image, search for more images, or upload an image of your own.

To use a different image, click on the “More Images” icon on the bottom toolbar or simply swipe right.

If you'd like to use your own image, you may either choose an existing one from your device’s “Gallery” or take and upload a brand new one via the “Camera” icon. Both Options can be found on the bottom toolbar.

Once you’re satisfied with your selected image, tap Post in the upper right corner of the screen. Voila!

*If Whisper does not have access to your photos you can change this under your device’s settings. Go to Settings>Privacy>Photos>Whisper.

How to Delete a Whisper

To delete a whisper you created, go the “My Account” section by clicking the silhouette on the bottom toolbar.  From there tap on the “Whispers” section. 

Tap on the whisper you want to delete, then click on the vertical ellipsis in the upper right corner of the screen and select “Delete Whisper.”

*Please note that even if you delete a whisper, search engines may index our content. You must contact them directly to delete cached content that no longer exists on our service.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

Whisper is the largest online community where people share real thoughts and feelings, without identities. We are leading a global movement that believes happiness starts when you get to be your real self. To keep our community safe, we enforce our Golden Rule: Don't be Mean, Don't be Gross, and Don't Use Whisper to Break the Law.

    Don’t Be Mean.  Bullying is not allowed on Whisper. Don’t defame, impersonate, or abuse another person. Don’t share personal information about another person, including addresses or phone numbers. Hate speech targeted towards any group of people will be removed from our services. This includes hateful speech on the basis of gender, sexuality, race, religion and ethnicity.

    Don’t Be Gross. You can use your own pictures on Whisper but we don’t allow posts that are gross, gory or pornographic.

    Don’t Use Whisper to Break the Law. Please don’t post pictures you don’t have the rights to. If you are not sure, don’t post it. Don’t post nude or intimate pictures. Do not use Whisper to engage in or promote illegal behavior such as selling controlled substances or solicitation. If you solicit minors for any reason or post sexually explicit pictures of minors, we will suspend your account and report you to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Do not make threats of violence, we may share your IP address, location, and other information with law enforcement if we think you have made a threat to the safety of others. We can be required by law to disclose your information if we receive a subpoena, court order, or search warrant.

We actively moderate the service and ban users who violate these rules. We reserve the right to suspend accounts or remove content for violating these guidelines or for any reason, but particularly to protect our users and community.

We treat references to self-harm and eating disorders seriously. Any posts glorifying these issues will be deleted. We invite you to visit YourVoice.org, our non-profit dedicated to eradicating the stigma around mental health issues.
