Game phases
All the games cycles through the 3 phases:
Night - Roles having nocturnal abilities (seers, werewolves, etc.) can use them.
Day - Users can talk about their information and suspicions while some roles can use day powers (gunner, pacifict, etc.)
Vote - Users can vote the player they'd like to lynch.
Game modes
Quick Game
The Quick Game is the first game mode. Here the game will simply pairs you up with other players for a simple and quick game, it is great for casual players that want to know how to play and test out the game.
Ranked Games
Ranked Games allows you to play against more skilled players. It has its own seasons, leaderboards and prizes. Ranked becomes playable only after you get 50 wins.
Custom Games
Here you can join and create games with custom roles, rules and features.
Play with Friends
Play with Friends allows you to have a private server with your friends, if you do not have enough players to start a game, you and your friends will be moved to a quick game, where you can still play together, just with other people.
Sandbox mode
Sandbox mode is a testing mode, in which you can help finding bugs and help make Wolvesville a better game! Here you can try out new roles and features.
Strategies and Advices
1. Don't reveal the Random Killer. In a game there are 4 werewolves, 1 Random Voting, 1 random killer and 10 villagers. If you reveal the random killer, then werewolves win chance will be very low. You can reveal him later when the villagers number is lower, but not too low because they won't vote the random killer because the werewolves will win.
You shouldn't reveal the Random Killer too early because they can kill the Village for you in the early game. Additionally, if the Random Killer is revealed by the Village, the votes will be directed to the Random Killer instead of any member of your team.
Keep in mind that revealing the Random Killer is NOT gamethrowing (and therefore is not reportable) since the Random Killer is not in the same team as you unless you are in a Love Couple with them.
2. If there are 1 or 2 villagers left, the random killer and 1 werewolf ( you ), claim the random killer. The villagers usually let the random killer to win because a random killer win is harder then a werewolf win. If the villagers trust you they might vote the real random killer out and you will win.
3. If the random killer is the Sect Leader don't kill him in the first nights. Let him get some Sect Members and then kill him to make as many kills as possible. But if you wait to much there is the risk he converts the Doctor, so be careful !
4. Don't kill the Fool too early. If the Seer reveals the fool then he might help the werewolves to win. Kill him just if he doesn't want to help or if the villagers try to random vote him ( if the seer is alive don't kill the fool because the seer might check the fool and it will be just a waste ).
5. Know who are the important roles to kill during the night. Make use of the Wolf Seer's checks to deduce who could be the important roles or deduction. If you are not sure who to kill, always kill randomly at night as this will progress towards your win condition. Refer below on who you should or should not kill during the night.
Priority kill targets: Doctor, Vigilante, Jailer, Witch, Medium and their advanced roles. They usually are dangerous roles to keep around with their strong abilities and therefore should be eliminated when spotted. But once they have used their abilities, you might want to leave them alone unless they are too smart.
Information Roles: While they are an all time threat to the Werewolves, do not attempt to do this unless it's Night 1 or that the protective roles are dead because they are usually protected by protective roles.
Cursed and their advanced roles: Depending on the situation, most of the time you should leave them alone. Turning cursed too early and the Village might suspect cursed being turned. Killing a Grave Robber might be a good since they can become a threatening role to your team but remember that they can also become a Werewolf too. An exception to this is the Werewolf Fan since they are already in your team to begin with (which you should not even turn them unless your team is about to die off or turning the Fan gives your team the win).
Potential Scapegoats: Doctor (in late game if they are not confirmed), Bodyguard, Loudmouth, Flower Child (can be suspected as Guardian Wolf), Cursed, Beast Hunter, RRV, Headhunter are commonly suspicious claims. You should leave them alive for the Village to lynch them especially when you are planning to claim those roles.
Game throwing/Random Killing Villagers: These players usually harm the village more than helping their own team. If you ever notice one, you can consider leaving them alone for them to cause more damage to the village which benefits your team in return. Just make sure that you are not in their line of sight. But remember to report them at the end of the game because that is against the rules on their part!
Cupid and Instigator: These roles would want to protect their couple at all costs. For Cupid, you should leave them alone on the off chance that your werewolf teammate or you might be coupled. They can indirectly become an ally should that happen. Also, they do not have any abilities to harm your team (aside from Night 1 which the Cupid will inevitably couple someone regardless if being killed or not). However, for Instigator, you should kill them on sight because they will become a threat when the Recruits are killed. There might come a time that a Werewolf Recruit will betray you when their numbers approaches to winning! (A werewolf recruit no longer sides with your team regardless if they died.)
Random Voting: You should leave them alive because they naturally do not have any abilities that could possibly harm your team. Additionally, they can cause a distraction such that the Werewolves would not be suspected. But always remember to not lynch randomly unless you are certain that the lynch does not constitute to their win. Anarchist makes an exception if they are about to win (village failed to vote someone for an overall of 2 days)
Random Killer: Most of the time, you are unable to kill the them normally at night unless they are Sect Leader, Zombie or Accomplice. As mentioned, always evaluate when to remove them (by lynching) from the game.
What's new
New roles
Say hello to the Alchemist (solo) and Grave robber (team village, probably …)! Both roles will first be enabled in custom games and will become available in sandbox games shortly after. There is also a third new role available, we will let you discover that one on your own though 😉
Backgrounds & dynamic loading screens
With the village moving to Wolvesville, a change of scenery felt appropriate. Starting with this update you will be able to change the background for the main screen and in-game 😎 Choose a background and POOF everyone will appear in your style! This is only on your side though 😉 the other villagers might prefer seeing everyone in another style!
For now everybody has a default background and one new background can be unlocked by purchasing the battle pass (soooo pretty 😍 If you don’t have the battle pass yet, you should definitely check this out!).
A new village also means a new way to get there! That is why we are happy to announce that the loading screen got an overhaul! It now uses the same system as the backgrounds: you get one default screen and can unlock more in the future! 2 of these loading screens are available in the battle pass for example 😉
Dark mode
This feature has been requested for a long time, and we are so happy to finally see it come to life! 😍 As a small thank you to all the dedicated supporters of Wolvesville, dark mode will initially be part of an offer that includes the above “darkness fear” outfit 😱 This offer will only be available until the end of March. Afterwards this offer will be replaced by a new offer with a reduced price which does not contain the outfit. You will not be able to unlock the outfit after the end of March! If you want to unlock dark mode early and support us in the process, now is your chance! 😊
Outfit remakes
Not much to say here, other than they are super crazy awesome 😍 Players that previously purchased these outfits will get the updated version for free (visible in the inventory!). We will also offer each outfit separately in the coming weeks. Checkout this site for an overview of all remakes!
Daily challenges
Daily challenges are small tasks like “Win 2 games” or “Spend 3 talismans” which, when completed, give you bonus xp at the end of a game. We are super excited about this and at the same time very unsure about balancing. That’s why this feature will only be available to some players initially, so we can fine tune some numbers before releasing it to everybody 🛠 Currently regular xp is reduced a bit to experiment with the additional xp coming from challenges. Please send us your feedback on this, we would love to know what you think and which challenges you would like to see in the future! 😊
New music
Thanks once again for Peter Cleaver for updating the existing soundtracks and adding so many new pieces! Complete list of updates:
Updated main music
New lobby music + role reveal effect
Update night music for werewolves + arsonist
New night music for fool, headhunter, bomber, sect leader, serial killer and zombie
Battle pass bundle offer
This offer gives you access to the battle pass and immediately unlocks the first 25 tiers. Ideal if you want a head start 😉
Option to send multiple roses at once
A long overdue feature: you can now send multiple roses (single or bouquets) to other players at once! The animation for sending stays the same. The recipient will be notified of the amount via a chat message 🌹
Gems in daily rewards
You can now collect additional gems via daily rewards! This feature was previously only available for new players and is now available for all players 😊
Ranked updates
Ranked games have gotten a total of 4 updates:
The list of roles is now hidden in the lobby to prevent players from repeatedly joining and leaving.
The required amount of wins to join ranked has been lowered to 50 (was 100 before).
Ranked outfits have been remade and now include more items per outfit (previously 4, now at a minimum 7 distinct item types) and female items (hair, shirt, etc.). Additionally, “winners” of a season receive a complete outfit of a tier (copper, bronze, etc.) instead of a single item only. If you previously owned a ranked reward item you will receive the complete outfit automatically.
New role setups for all leagues: let us know what you think! 🏆
New social media items
To spam celebrate our new name Wolvesville, new social media items and tiers have been added! 🥳 All platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram) now have 4 tiers with each tier giving a single item. In addition, tier 4 will grant the badge (same as before). If you already have the badge you can still unlock the item at tier 4.
To help with the migration period between our old name and Wolvesville, here are some rules to keep in mind:
“Werewolf Online” rewards can only be obtained if they are claimed before the 28th of February.
Posts about Wolvesville must be created on or after the 22nd of February.
All previous rules still apply, so the post must not promote gamethrowing, hate speech etc.
Outfits, outfits, outfits, and more outfits!
Daily rewards, loyalty tokens and clan quests have all gotten more rewards 🥳 If you currently have enough loyalty tokens for the new outfit, you will receive the outfit automatically.
Other small changes & bug fixes
The “auto double xp” offer can now be sent as a gift to others.
Fixed music sometimes not restarting in game
Fixed some players not receiving the previously new daily reward outfit “sadsick”
Fixed bandit creating multiple accomplices
Fixed iOS notification permissions
Fixed iOS emojis missing eyes and other elements (hopefully)
Fixed tough guy protection message in Dutch games
Fixed lovers not seeing lover role after rejoining a game
Fixed corrupted message not showing when being corrupted while offline
Fixed spirit seer not getting results message when offline
Fixed nightmare werewolf using ability too many times
The future of Wolvesville
Going forward, here are some topics we want to focus on next:
More roles: we still have a small set of roles that we think are really cool and would love to see in game!
Login as guest: to help new players discover Wolvesville that otherwise would have shied away from the registration requirement. For those thinking this will lead to an increase of cheating, don’t worry, we have you covered 😉
Challenges: the current form of daily challenges is just the beginning, there are so many more options to explore here!
More game modes: also heavily requested, we want to try adding another type of game mode that sits somewhere in between quick games and ranked games (maybe called “advanced games”?).
Web version: while not yet clear how feasible this is from a technical perspective, we definitely want to take a very close look at it and see how we can port Wolvesville to PC, either as a standalone version (Steam?) or a web version.
Wolvesville - Werewolf Online Reference Tips
General Tips
1. Familiarize yourself with the roles: Before starting the game, make sure you know what each role can do. Reading up on the abilities of both the villagers and the werewolves will help you make informed decisions during gameplay.
2. Pay attention to chat: The chat is where players discuss information, theories, and vote to put suspicious players on trial. Keep an eye on what players are saying and use that information to your advantage. Beware of players who are being too quiet or are trying to steer the conversation away from important topics.
3. Be patient: The game can take a while to start since it requires a certain number of players to begin. Use this time to introduce yourself and analyze the chat for any early clues about players' roles.
4. Be adaptable: The game can be unpredictable, so it's essential to be flexible and adjust your strategy as the game progresses. Be prepared to change your vote or tactics if new information emerges.
Tips for Villagers
1. Stick together: The villagers' strength lies in their numbers. Stick together as a group and coordinate your votes and actions. United you are stronger, and the werewolves will have a harder time eliminating you.
2. Observe player behavior: Watch how players are acting and what they are saying. Werewolves may slip up and reveal themselves through their actions or words.
3. Use your abilities: Some villagers have unique abilities that can help identify or protect players. Use them wisely and discuss the results with other players.
4. Identify patterns: Pay attention to any patterns that may emerge during the game. Players who are consistently suspicious or making strange moves may be werewolves trying to throw off suspicion.
5. Vote wisely: Use the information you've gathered from observation and player behavior to make informed decisions during the voting process. Don't be swayed by players who are misrepresenting themselves or trying to manipulate the outcome.
Tips for Werewolves
1. Blend in: As a werewolf, your goal is to deceive the villagers and avoid detection. Try to blend in with the other players and be cautious about revealing yourself too early.
2. Lie effectively: Deception is key to winning as a werewolf. Make sure your lies are convincing and consistent. Remember to play off other players' suspicions and try to create confusion.
3. Use your abilities: Werewolves have different abilities, such as being able to kill villagers at night or disguise themselves as a village member. Use these abilities strategically and coordinate with other werewolves.
4. Manipulate the vote: The werewolves' best chance of victory is to eliminate key villagers during the day phase, causing the numbers to shift in their favor. Try to manipulate the vote by redirecting suspicion onto other players or defending yourself as a crucial member of the village.
5. Keep an eye on the clock: As a werewolf, you don't want the game to drag on for too long. If the numbers start to dwindle in favor of the villagers, you'll need to act fast to eliminate them before it's too late.
