What happens when I use 3D secure?

Your credit or debit card payment is redirected to your bank’s 3D Secure service to authenticate and authorise payment for online shopping. Authentication is done via one-time pins (OTPs) sent to your cellphone. 

Explain what happens in my account when I pay for my Woolworths order online.

You may receive a notification from your bank when you place your Woolworths online order. At this point, we reserve the amount of your order in your account -- this is the amount that is quoted when you checkout. These funds are reserved for 7-14 days, depending on your card type, and 21 days for international cards. We only actually deduct the funds from your account when your order is complete. This is standard with online shopping, to make sure that any substitutions or changes to your order have been taken into account. 

How do I make payment?

You can pay for your order with any Mastercard or Visa credit card, Woolworths Store Cards, Woolworths Credit Cards as well as Woolworths Gift Cards. Unfortunately, we cannot accept American Express, Diners Club, or payment on delivery. Please note: Some debit cards will allow you to purchase at Woolworths online, but will reflect an outstanding amount in your account for a while after you've received your items. We are working on a solution to this. Please contact our customer service centre for more information.

Can I use my Woolworths Store Card or Woolworths Credit Card to shop on the website?

Yes, you can. We gladly accept Woolworths Store Cards and Woolworths Credit Cards.

Can I pay using a Diners Club or American Express credit card?

We unfortunately do not accept Diners Club or American Express cards online.

This is because neither American Express nor Diners’ Club cards operate with 3D Secure (the one-time PIN process that verifies many other cards like Visa and MasterCard). 3D Secure is best practice in e-commerce, and as we are constantly working to protect the safe online shopping of our customers, we have to insist on 3D Secured cards.
