When the game is first launched, the player is given the option to go through a brief tutorial that outlines the game mechanics. This tutorial is extremely helpful for new players and we recommend completing it. After the tutorial, the player may select to start playing or to review the tutorial again.

Once the game begins, the player is presented with a character. The character will be either a hiragana or katakana character that the player needs to identify. The player then needs to select the appropriate character from a set of options. If the player selects the correct character, they move on to the next one. If they select the wrong character, the game will alert them and present the correct answer. The player will then have the option to try again or move on to the next character.

The game is structured in different levels. Each level consists of 20 characters, and the player must complete each level to progress. Once the player completes a level, they are awarded with stars. The stars are used to unlock bonus levels and rewards.

As the player progresses through the levels, the game becomes more difficult. The characters become less common, and the options become more similar. To make the game even more challenging, the player can turn off the hints that identify the characters.
