The app is compatible with all Android phones and tablets running Android 5 or newer. There is also an Android TV version of the app.

Android phones and tablets

Using Yle Areena's mobile application requires logging into the application. To log in to Yle Areena, you must have a Yle ID. Create a Yle ID for yourself on Yle Areena's website, mobile application or directly from Yle ID at yle.fi/tunnus . You only need an email address and a password for the ID. Date of birth and gender are voluntary information. You can start using the ID as soon as you have confirmed your email address. General User instructions related to the ID help in creating the ID.

In Yle Areena's browser version, it is still possible to watch and listen to programs without logging in.

Download the app to your device from the Google Play Store .

The application works on Android versions 5.0 and higher.

Please note that using the application may incur data transfer costs depending on your contract with the operator.

- Chromecast

The app supports Chromecast. If there are devices that support Chromecast on the same wireless network, the Chromecast symbol will appear in the upper right corner of the application.

When the program is running and the Chromecast is ready to use, select the cast symbol and a suitable Chromecast device found on the web. To stop streaming a show, go to the Areena app and disconnect the Chromecast.

In the event of a failure, you should first try restarting the Chromecast device and the Areena application.

- use abroad

Some of the software at Yle Areena is limited to viewing or listening only in Finland for copyright reasons. The application automatically recognizes if you are abroad.

If you are in the EU region and your permanent residence is in Finland, you can watch and listen to all of Yle Areena's content. Read the instructions for enabling EU use.

Yle Areena on the big screen

Yle Areena's TV application requires logging in and you log in with Yle IDs. The Yle Areena application can be installed from the manufacturer's application store, on Android devices from Google Play or Amazon's application store, or from Apple's application store.

You can still use browser-based services without logging in. You can also continue to use Yle Areena's oldest TV applications without logging in, because their further development is no longer possible. You can find a list of TV applications that require login in this article. When login is required, the application opens to a view where you can log in. If you don't have the mentioned devices, you can mirror programs from Yle Areena's application using Chromecast or Apple Airplay. You can also use an HDMI cable to watch Yle Areena, e.g. by connecting the cable to a computer or mobile device.

The image quality of TV programs adjusts automatically based on the available network speed but can also be manually set in the player's menu.

Logging in is key to better service, so logging in or registering is now required for everyone when opening the app for the first time. User activity within the app is monitored anonymously while respecting customer privacy.

Issue

The TV application gives an error message

Some of Yle Areena's TV applications give an error message "An error occurred, try again later" when trying to start an episode of a TV program. When an error occurs, the program does not start running. The announcement comes in the latest programs, for example in the episodes of The Murders of Tehtaantyttöj series.

The error message appears on at least the following TV models:

Q: The Paris Olympic Games™ crown Yle Urheilu's summer offer

Yle offers the Summer Olympics comprehensively on television, radio, Yle Areena and on Yle's website and Yle app.

A good two weeks from the end of July, we will enjoy an emotional celebration of sports, when the Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11. in Paris, France.

Yle Urheilu broadcasts the games daily from nine in the morning until midnight on Yle TV2 and Yle Areena. On Yle Radio Suomen Olympiaradio, broadcasts are heard every day from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. until late at night. On Yle Urheilu's website and in the Yle application, the Olympians are followed almost 24 hours a day.

Finnish performances and the most important sports for Finns are at the center of the live broadcasts, without forgetting the tasters and topics of conversation about other interesting and fast-paced Olympic sports. Yle has the rights to show three different sports simultaneously on television and in Areena, excluding water sports and basketball. Basketball and swimming reports are heard on Yle Radio Finland.

By following Yle Urheilu's website and the Yle app, you stay on the map of all the events of the Games.

On Yle Urheilu's website, you can find comprehensive result tracking, the most interesting race news, and the best video clips in the Hetki ekkellta follow -up, along with Yle's race broadcast. In the Yle app and Yle Urheilu's website, personal stories and phenomenal stories that delve deeper than the surface of the Games are published. You can test your knowledge in the sports-themed Kisanujat game, where you can win prizes.

You can get excited about the games together with other Olympic spectators in the chat both in Yle Areena and in the Yle service. The Olympic atmosphere also takes over Yle Urheilu's social media channels, where you can find the most memorable moments of the race both on the fields and behind the scenes.

Paralympics comprehensively on Yle's channels

After the Olympics, Paris wakes up to a new sports frenzy when the Paralympics are held from August 28 to September 8. Live broadcasts of the games can be seen daily on Yle TV2 and Yle Areena, and they are also followed on Yle Urheilu's website and Yle app. Around 20 groups of athletes are expected from Finland to the Games, which Yle Urheilu will follow closely from the sky.

Commentaries are responsible for e.g. Jari Haapala, Tuomas Törrönen and Toni Lönnroos. Yle Urheilu's reporters Maija Kautto, Emma Hyyppä and Petri Sjöblom convey the mood from the spot.

Q: Logging in to the smart TV application

In the Yle Areena smart TV applications, logging in is done either by logging into the application with the Yle ID or by connecting the smart TV device to the user's existing Yle ID account. The connected devices can be found in Yle Tunnun's own information under Connected devices. If you haven't created a Yle ID for yourself yet, do it either on a mobile device or on a computer at tunn.yle.fi and then go to your smart TV device.

Q: Yle Urheilu's summer is full of major international events and domestic sports

Yle Urheilu takes Finns to the edge of great emotions and moments.

This summer, there's a sports craze with a versatile range of sports and competition coverage on Yle TV2, Yle Areena, Yle Radio in Finland, Yle's website and the Yle app.

There are various competitions, from the start of the GP of athletics in May and domestic ball games to major events in orienteering and the Jyväskylä World Cup Rally and the Helmariten EC qualifiers. The sports summer is of course also punctuated by the eagerly awaited prestigious competitions, which start in June with the European Championships in athletics and football, and are crowned with the Paris Olympics and Paralympics in July–August.

Yle Urheilu's familiar faces and experts live together with Finns in the moments of victory and defeat and convey the toughest analyzes of performances as well as the most interesting people and phenomena from and around the sports world.

Q: Yle Uutiset and Yle Urheilu are being renewed

Yle Uutiset and Yle Urheilu will enter a new era, when the new studios and brand looks and audio worlds will be put into use on June 10.

This is the biggest reform work in more than ten years, and with it, Finns can continue to watch top-class news and sports content. Yle Uutiset , A-Studio , Yle aam, Yle Sää , Urheiluruutu and TV-nytt, Sportnytt and special news will operate in the new studio environment. In the reform, we want to invest even more in visual content production.

In connection with the renovation of the studios, the contents of Yle Uutisten, Yle Urheilu and Svenska Yle were given a modern look that works on different channels. The change can be seen in logos, color and sound worlds, program codes and other visual elements. In the future, it will be even easier for Finns to recognize and find Yle's news and sports content, regardless of channel or platform.

Yle Urheilu's ways of doing things and brands are also being renewed. Yle Urheilu's contents, including the Sports screen , will have a more unified look. The new main color is bold and fresh lime, and Yle Urheilu's new business language adapts to the energy of sports.

In addition, in Svenska Yles, the contents and activities will be updated. Tv-nytt , Yle Sporten's contents and Sportnytt will adapt their appearance to the new contents of Yle Uutinen and Yle Urheilu.

The first broadcasts of Yle Uutisten, Yle Sää and Urheiluruuutu from the new studios will be shown on June 10 at 6:00 p.m., and on the same day, the broadcast of TV-nytti at 7:30 p.m. and A-studio at 9:00 p.m. Yle morning's first renewed broadcasts can be seen the following day, Tuesday, June 11. The new look of Yle Urheilu and Yle Sporten can already be seen from June 7 in connection with the European Athletics Championships.
