We are dedicated to ensuring that the content on YouTube Kids is appropriate for families by employing automated filters developed by our expert teams, human oversight, and feedback from parents. While our safeguards are robust, occasional inappropriate content may still slip through. Therefore, we continuously enhance our protective measures and introduce additional features to assist parents in creating the ideal experience for their families.

Tailor your child's experience using Parental Controls

Manage screen time: Establish a time restriction for your children's viewing activities to encourage a healthy balance between screen time and other activities.

Monitor viewing history: By reviewing the "watch it again" page, you will always be aware of the content your children have watched and the new interests they are exploring.

Content blocking: If you encounter a video you don't like, you can block both the specific video and the entire channel, preventing them from appearing again.

Content flagging: You have the option to notify us about inappropriate content by flagging a video for assessment. Flagged content is assessed 24/7.

Facilitate unique experiences for each child

You can create up to eight individual profiles for children, each customized with distinct viewing preferences, video recommendations, and settings. Opt for the "Approved Content Only" mode to manually select the videos, channels, or collections you permit your child to access. Under this mode, children cannot browse for videos. The "Preschool" mode, tailored for children aged 4 and below, features videos that cultivate creativity, playfulness, learning, and exploration. The "Younger" mode allows children aged 5-8 to delve into various topics like songs, cartoons, and crafts. For kids aged 9 and above, the "Older" mode enables them to search and explore additional content such as popular music and gaming videos intended for children.

Our extensive library showcases a broad array of family-friendly videos covering various topics to spark children's creativity and playfulness. From their preferred shows and music to tutorials on constructing a model volcano (or making slime ;-), there's something for every child's interest.

NOTE: Your child might encounter videos containing promotional content from YouTube creators that are not paid advertisements. The Privacy Notice pertaining to Google Accounts managed via Family Link outlines our privacy practices when your child utilizes YouTube Kids with their Google Account. When your child uses YouTube Kids without logging into their Google Account, the YouTube Kids Privacy Notice applies.

Easily Switch from YouTube to YouTube Kids on your TV

Hey Parents & Guardians!

We’re excited to announce we are launching a new way for you to easily switch into your child’s profile in the YouTube Kids app on a smart TV, streaming device, or game console. Previously you had to navigate to the YouTube Kids app icon on your TV, but now you’ll be able to switch into your child’s profile in the YouTube Kids app from the YouTube app!  

When you are signed in and open the YouTube app on your TV, you’ll now see your child’s YouTube Kids profile appear alongside your YouTube profiles. More details on creating a YouTube Kids profile here. Once you select your child’s YouTube Kids profile, you’ll be brought directly into the YouTube Kids experience on your TV. This update is rolling out over the coming weeks so if you don’t see it yet, check back soon! You can also continue to access YouTube Kids on your TV using the YouTube Kids app icon. Learn more here.

If you want to remove a YouTube Kids profile, you can delete the profile by following these steps. Important: if you delete a YouTube Kids profile, it will be deleted on all devices!

5/22 Update:

You’ll soon be able to switch into the YouTube Kids app from the YouTube app on Smart TVs, streaming devices, and game consoles – even if you aren’t signed in to YouTube. This update will be rolling out over the next few weeks so stay tuned if you don’t see it yet!
